Looking at the map, you will notice that the central region of Thailand is located on a fertile plain where the Chao Phraya River flows, on the banks of which the capital of this beautiful country, the incredible Bangkok, is located.
The pearl of the central region can be safely called the Salt farms and rice plantations.
Salt has long been equated with gold. This is one of the most ancient spices used for cooking. Farmers use reservoir lakes that are filled with seawater, usually located along the coast. Extracting salt is a very grueling and time-consuming process. First you need to prepare the land, fill it with sea water and wait. The combination of sun and sea breeze does the job and within a few weeks you can harvest.
Rice is the country's staple agricultural product and is a staple in the Thai diet. Most rice is grown in the central region in flooded rice fields. These are the most beautiful places in Thailand that are definitely worth seeing.
And of course, one of the calling cards of the country can be safely called orchards, which Russian travelers visit with pleasure.
The Central region is one of the most popular destinations in Thailand for both locals and foreign tourists. It captivates with its magnificent beaches, emerald forests, waterfalls, mysterious caves, protected bays, and of course amazing islands.
One of the most active and colorful resorts in the central region, Pattaya, is very popular among Russians. This area is famous for its sun, sand, sea, rich excursion program and of course nightlife. One of the main attractions of Pattaya is the floating market, which embodies the diversity of the Thai way of life.
The southern region is like a dream consisting of turquoise sea and sandy beaches. The region is located on a peninsula between the Andaman Sea on the Indian Ocean side and the Gulf of Thailand. One of the most attractive places for tourists in this region is the island of Ko Samui and Phuket. Holidays here are chosen by people who love the combination of comfort with stunning scenery around. Amazing bays, snow-white beaches and turquoise bays - it's all waiting. Nearby are islands such as Ko Phan Ngan, Ko Tao and Ko Tan. The diversity of the natural landscape attracts both lovers of active recreation and admirers of a paradise holiday on snow-white beaches under the dazzling Thai sun. The islands are crossed by mountains and emerald forests that are located on the hills. And the coastline is endless beaches, tall palm trees and the clearest water of the Gulf of Thailand of the Pacific Ocean.
Weaving, pearl farming, coconut plantations, and rubber production are very developed in the southern region of Thailand.
The northern region of Thailand is full of forests, rivers, waterfalls, and spectacular mountain ranges.
A map of Thailand in Russian tells us that the north of the country, as well as its central part, is rightfully considered the home of rice fields. Silver production is also developed here, which is popular not only among Thais, but throughout the world. Local residents are very successful in growing tea, which, thanks to the cool air, has a unique taste and aroma. In the northeastern region of Thailand, there live very kind, friendly, but at the same time shy people. All historical heritage and traditions are still preserved here. In this part of the country, people are engaged in agriculture, especially rice cultivation, but many also take part in artistic activities, such as silk production, handmade clothing and ceramics.
Once a year, a mask festival takes place. This festival is famous for its ghost masks, which can be seen in many houses in the village. The method of creating a mask is very complex, but at the same time interesting. It consists of coconuts and sticky rice, after complex procedures of creating the shape, the mask is primed with white color, after which it is painted in bright colors. Each region has its own unique characteristics, its own flavor and traditions. Thailand is famous for its hospitality and ability to warmly welcome guests, not only Thais, but also Russians, and tourists from all over the world. The capital and largest metropolis is the city of Bangkok, which the Thais themselves call Krung Thep. There are 2 international airports in Bangkok, through which most tourists enter Thailand - Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang.

Tourists who come to Thailand to relax in the resort of Pattaya first fly to Suvarnabhumi Airport and after that take a bus or taxi and arrive in Pattaya.

Sights of Bangkok

Those tourists who decide to settle in Bangkok for sightseeing mainly settle in the tourist area of Khao San Road, which is located in the Old Town.

Bangkok has a large number of attractions, to explore which you need to head to the Old Town of Rattanakosin.

Must-sees include: Grand Royal Palace, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Temple of the Reclining Buddha, Temple of Dawn, Chinatown, Golden Mountain, Marble Temple, the tallest building Baiyok Sky Hotel and Temple of the Golden Buddha.

Resorts of Thailand

There are 3 main resorts in Thailand - the city and the islands and Koh Samui. The rest of the resorts in Thailand cannot boast of a large number of tourists, but this is precisely what attracts those who want to be alone.

Pattaya should be chosen by those who come to Thailand to have fun. Here every tourist will find something of his own. It is in Pattaya that the largest Russian-speaking diaspora lives. You should not go to this city with children, as it is the capital of sex tourism.

Phuket is suitable for both partygoers and families with children; everything will depend on which resort on the island you choose. If you come to have fun and are no stranger to nightlife, then you should choose a hotel on Patong Beach. Families would be better off staying at other beaches - Kata, Karon, etc.

Koh Samui is much smaller in size than the island of Phuket and is known for being a holiday destination for families with children. This does not mean that there are no entertaining nightlife spots here. Young people who choose Samui for their holidays prefer to settle on the noisiest beach, Chaweng, where they can dance in clubs at night.

Islands of Thailand

In the south of Thailand there are thousands of islands, which are either world-famous resorts or generally uninhabited and have no name.

The largest island in Thailand is Phuket, which is also the second most popular resort.

It is customary to go to Koh Chang island for 2 days, and you can buy a tour to this island at any travel agency in Pattaya.

Koh Phangan is an island where Fool Moon Parties are held every month during the full moon. You can get here from Koh Samui.

The Similan Islands are also located close to Phuket and the opportunity to visit them exists only from November to April.

The famous James Bond Islands grace Phang Nga province and can also be seen on a day tour from Phuket.

Excursions in Thailand

Currency and banks

In Thailand, Thai baht are used in everyday life and for many years 1 dollar is equal to approximately 32 baht.

You can travel to Thailand with both dollars and euros. It is better to take large dollar bills with you, as small ones are accepted at a reduced rate. This discrimination is not observed in the euro. You can also take rubles with you to Thailand, but there are much fewer exchange offices where they are accepted, and the exchange rate is often not profitable for tourists.

There are a large number of ATMs in Thailand, so you can take a bank card with you and withdraw money from it. Most ATMs charge a commission of 150 baht ($5) from your card for each transaction, so it’s better to withdraw the maximum possible amount at once (10 or 20 thousand baht). There are also ATMs in Thailand that do not charge fees - these are AEON Bank ATMs. Most of them can be found in large shopping centers and hypermarkets.

Weather in Thailand and when is the best time to go there

As we said above, in the resorts of Thailand the air temperature is around +30 degrees. The sea is always warm, even at night.

The tourist season is considered to be the period from November to April. The rainy season lasts from May to October.

The monsoon season can negatively affect your holiday, as some excursions from Phuket are either canceled or reduced, as there are strong waves at sea and there is a danger that the ship with tourists will capsize. Also during this period it is impossible to swim in Phuket due to high waves and a ban on swimming.

The rainy season will not have any negative impact on your holiday in Pattaya.

Transport in Thailand

In Pattaya, tourists move around the city in pickup trucks with two shops, which they call tuk-tuks, but the Thais themselves call them songthaews. The fare is 10 baht. You can also take either a regular taxi or a motorcycle taxi. Here the price is negotiable.

In Phuket, tuk-tuks work like taxis, so travel on this island will cost much more than in Pattaya. As such, there is no public transport in Phuket. Centenarians usually rent a motorbike and move around the island on it.

If you need to move to another city or island, a budget airline such as Air Asia may be your best option. Even a flight to a neighboring country, such as Cambodia, will not exceed $50. better in advance.

Bus and train services are also present in Thailand, but tourists prefer to travel by air-conditioned tourist buses.

Safety in Thailand

The biggest problem in Thailand may be theft from hotel safes. In no other country in the world are thefts in hotels as developed as in Thailand, so it will be much safer to carry everything valuable with you, and even to the beach. If something happens, you will be able to fight back the robber, but when someone steals from your hotel room in your absence, you will not be able to prevent it. Theft from rooms is almost always observed only in package hotels, where tourists who have purchased vouchers are brought. Family hotels and guest houses value their reputation, so they don’t steal.

Another danger for tourists lurks on the street. Thais on mopeds, passing tourists, snatch their bags and drive away at high speed. It will be impossible to catch up with them or remember the number written in Thai characters.

When withdrawing money, it is better to use ATMs located in banks or shopping centers. Those ATMs that are located on the streets can be used by scammers to make a duplicate of your card and then withdraw all the money from it.

Taxi drivers in Thailand, as well as in other countries, are dishonest and for the most part are trying to get rich at the expense of stupid tourists. When boarding a taxi, always make sure that the taxi driver turns on the meter, and make sure that it does not move too quickly. Otherwise, just tell the taxi driver to stop. If a taxi driver offers you to stop at some store along the road, then never agree.

Food and fruits in Thailand

Thais are a nation that can eat 24 hours a day, so food trays, which Russian tourists here call makashnitsy, are present at every turn. Don’t be afraid to eat from them, as no one has ever been poisoned.

Almost all main dishes in Thailand are served very spicy, so if you are not a fan of chili peppers, then inform the restaurant in advance so that the dish is prepared for you not spicy.

In Thailand, you must try Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai noodles and Som Tam salad.

Thailand probably has the largest selection of exotic fruits, as the fruit is harvested 3 times a year. The most favorite fruit for the Thais themselves is durian, but due to its strong smell, it is prohibited from being brought into hotels or transported on airplanes. Here you can find watermelon not only with red flesh, but also with yellow flesh, although they taste the same. All the fruits you know will be much tastier in Thailand. Here you don’t have to buy a whole watermelon, pineapple or durian, as the sellers can cut them for you, remove the seeds, put them in a transparent bag, to which they will attach wooden skewers on which you will string the fruit.

Alcohol in Thailand

Thai beers include Chang, Singha, Leo and Tiger. There are also other beers that are sold in both glass bottles and cans.

Thai rum Sang Som is quite popular among tourists, which is sold in both small and large bottles.

Shopping in Thailand

In Thailand, it is profitable to buy iPhone mobile phones, since, firstly, their cost is lower than in Russia, and secondly, when leaving Thailand, right at the airport you will receive a VAT refund of 8% of the purchase price.

Tourists also buy Thai cosmetics, aromatic soaps, silk products, souvenirs in the form of elephants and Buddha figurines in Thailand.

If you are planning to buy Thai-made clothes, then the cheapest place to do this is in Bangkok in numerous shopping centers, and simply in street markets.

Mobile communications and Internet

There are 3 mobile operators in Thailand: True Move, DTAC and AIS. The cost of calls within Thailand, regardless of the operator you choose, will be 1-2 baht. You can top up your balance at any 7/Eleven or Family Mart store.

If you are planning to call Russia from Thailand, then it is better to do this with a Thai SIM card, as it will be cheaper than connecting to roaming.

If you are traveling to Thailand during the peak tourist season, i.e. for the New Year, it’s better in advance. If you are going to relax at another time of the year, you will easily find suitable accommodation upon arrival at the resort. However, you don’t have to stay in a fancy hotel. You can rent an apartment, bungalow, mansion, or stay in a guest house. An inexpensive room will cost you 500 baht ($15) per night. For long-term stays, you have the right to demand a significant discount.

Travel insurance for Thailand

To holiday in Thailand, it is not necessary to buy travel medical insurance, since you will be allowed into the country without it. However, as practice shows, accidents happen to those who do not have insurance. In Thailand, accidents with tourist buses occur quite often, and cases of injury on excursions, the beach, and various tropical diseases also occur. Medicine in Thailand is very expensive, so those who have not paid medical expenses are simply not allowed to leave the country.

To protect yourself, it is better to take care of insurance in advance.

Many have heard more than once about wonderful resorts with snow-white beaches and the gentle sea of a tropical state that is so beloved by Russian tourists. But not everyone knows about the geographical location of this exotic kingdom, what seas it is washed by and who its neighbors are. In order to know what the climate is like there, how long it takes to get there, you need to understand where Thailand is located on the world map.

This wonderful country with its rich culture and customs belongs to the Southeast region of Asia and occupies only 510 thousand square kilometers, which occupies the Indochina peninsula and part of Mallaka. The shores of the kingdom are washed by the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, which maintain warm water comfortable for swimming all year round.

World map with Thailand

World map with Thailand

It is located in a tropical climate zone near the equator, so the country has a fairly developed tourism infrastructure. The year is divided into three seasons: hot (March to May), rainy (June to September) and dry with cooler temperatures (October to February).

Finding Thailand on the map will not be difficult, despite its such a small area, because this country has an outline somewhat similar to the head of an elephant with a large trunk.

In the northeast, the kingdom borders Cambodia and Laos. Tourists who come often take advantage of the opportunity and at the same time attend excursion tours to Cambodia, where many ancient temple complexes are located. Those vacationers who came to the Thai state for more than a month must cross the state border and return back for subsequent residence there. For these purposes, people mainly choose Laos.

The northern and northwestern part of Thailand borders the state of Myanmar; previously, fierce wars and civil strife flared up between these two countries more than once. At the present time, relations between them have also remained rather tense. In the south, the country's neighbor is Malaysia.

In the southeast, Thailand intersects with the maritime borders of Vietnam, and its southwestern part in the Andaman Sea with Indonesia and India.

This kingdom has a large extent from south to north, therefore it has a wide variety of climatic conditions, which makes it possible to harvest crops in the country three times a year.

Resort areas

The tourist region of Thailand can be divided into three parts. Its northern region with the main city of Chaeng Mai is considered one of the ancient places in the state. There you can still see various archaeological and historical monuments, ancient temple complexes and ruins. Tribes of women with long necks previously lived here, as evidenced by many finds in those places.

Also interesting for tourists is that the so-called "Golden Triangle", formed on the site of 3 states. All this simply attracts to the north of Thailand all those who love historical excursions and various interesting sights.

The coasts of the country are also located in the southern part of the kingdom. Beach recreation here flourishes all year round; in addition to water pleasures, tourists who come here can expect many different excursions to natural monuments, zoos, water parks, national protected areas and various exotic islands.

Thailand in its central part gathers all lovers of beautiful waterfalls, farms with various exotic animals and, of course, connoisseurs of metropolitan life. It is here that the capital of the kingdom is located - the multimillion-dollar metropolis of Bangkok.

Relief and water resources of the country

Lowlands prevail throughout Thailand; in the north of the country there is the Luang Praban ridge and the small Phipannam highlands. The western part of the state is considered high-mountainous, with such ridges as Khunthan, Bilau and Tanentaungyi located there. They extend all the way to Mallaki. The highest point of the country is located in its northwestern part and is called Mount Doi Inthanon. In the southeast of Thailand there is the Kravan mountain range, along which the borders of the Thai state pass.
