What to bring from Hainan? Shopping in Sanya on Hainan Island. Cheat sheet about hainan or what is dadonghai Shopping center winter sanya

I went to Hainan in June 2017. Tour operator - Tez tour. First, I want to note one feature of the rest on this island. The main contingent of tourists are the Chinese and ours, from the CIS countries. That is why, if you see a non-Chinese face, you know for sure that the person will understand you and tell you what, where and why. So, people easily exchange information about the island, where it is better to eat, stay, who to take excursions from. There are even groups on VKontakte in which people are constantly discussing about recreation. By the way, it’s also worth downloading the maps me app and finding map tags in VK groups, it’s much easier to navigate.

By the way, google, facebook, instagram and now watsapp do not work there. They need a vpn.

So, let's begin.

The island met with absolutely terrible weather on the plane. There was a terrible downpour, and it was very uncomfortable to sit down.

When we got off the plane, we thought it would be cold. But the tropical climate endowed us with stuffiness, combined with a downpour.

At the exit from the airport, we were met by the "beloved" Tez Tour with buses. We just ran to the bus, the water was ankle-deep, and at the same time, no one helped the two women load their suitcases onto the bus. Previously, we dealt with the tour operator Mouzenidis, who showed himself from a much better side, including in this matter.

Got on the bus soaking wet

Our hotel is located in Dadonghai Bay, so on the way we could see a fairly large part of the city of Sanya. We chose Resort Intime Sanya as our place of stay.

Upon arrival, we left our things at the reception and went to have breakfast. Going out to the beach, we immediately stumbled upon a restaurant called "USSR" I would like to say right away that it is very expensive there compared to many other places in Dadonghai. For eggplant, broccoli, two fresh juices and shrimp, we paid around 200 yuan. BUT! It was the most delicious meal we had on the island. The sauces were perfect, the vegetables not in a ton of fat, as they like to cook everywhere. Delicious.

I would like to show a small map of the island, which we were given either by the tour operator, or somewhere in the stores. Those who have a rest in Dadonghai should immediately learn where the shopping centers are located - Winter and Summer.

Winter is an old building, full of Chinese cheap consumer goods, etc. It is worth going there for beach accessories, tea and, possibly, silk.

Summer is more expensive. It has several cafes, a large number of shops, where everything is VERY expensive. Mostly there are clothes and pearls. I would like to mention two stores there. The first is a store for comic book lovers. There was a fairly large number of various paraphernalia, clothes, figurines on sale. For example, a Suicide Squad baseball cap cost 180 yuan. After that, I even got tired of looking at the rest of the prices. The second is an import goods store. There you can find Russian vodka. But the most interesting there were various Japanese and Korean sweets. But the prices, again, bite. Chips, packs of biscuits, etc. cost around 40 yuan. Hainan, after all, is not for shopping.

Between these malls is a food square. In the evenings, at 6-7 o'clock, kiosks with food and drinks open there, and the entire square is filled with people. There you can find a large number of different seafood, and the prices are quite reasonable.

Rice with shrimp cost about 20 yuan

Squid kebab - 10 yuan. But it turned out to be very salty and with a huge amount of spices (and, strangely, not spicy)

Even near the food square there is an unfinished building with shops on the 1-2 floors. There you can buy souvenirs (but there are few of them), “smuggling”, tea and, most importantly, excursions. To do this, just go to any tea shop.

We bought all the excursions from the Chinese guys, Petya and Vanya. We kept in touch with them via whatsapp (although now, whatsapp no longer works there, it seems). All tours went great. Of course, tour operators have more guarantees, etc., but the locals have never let us down personally. See for yourself.

Also, in tea houses, of course, you can buy and taste tea, as well as coke and rice vodka, rose sweets (very tasty!), coconut oil.

It also has a large number of clothing stores, not cheap.

There is also a good supermarket with various sweets and kinder disappointments.

Also there is everyone's favorite Miniso. But, since it is in my city, I did not fall into a shopping frenzy, and bought only the necessary things there, like tweezers or headphones.

We had lunch at Pineapple once and it was quite a strange experience. I wanted to try local sushi or rolls.

The rolls were quite tasty, and I also liked this format.

There was no Russian menu, so my mother ordered at random. They brought her this dish with pickled onions and scallops. It was disgusting.

From the excursions, we decided to take the Romantic Park, Monkey Island, Thermal Springs, Yanoda, and also independently got to the center of Buddhism "Nanshan". To do this, we just got on the bus. By the way, such leaflets are given in the Silk Road store, near the Intime Hotel.

Also, on the first day, we had the stupidity to go on a free tour from Teztour.

I will not go into details now, but this is a waste of time - you will simply be taken to the points of sale of any garbage, like nanocalcium, shark oil, etc. It was just a waste of time.

Several times we went to the center of Sanya - to the pedestrian street and the night market.

We categorically did not like it on the pedestrian street - there is practically nothing interesting there. However, the night market is worth your attention.

It opens in the evening and occupies a fairly large area. You can find a lot of things there - souvenirs (by the way, there is a problem with magnets in Hainan. Surprising, right?), clothes, fruits. It was there that we tried durian and bought pieces of jackfruit. I also bought a cute wallet for 15 yuan and a dress for 65 yuan there. Not so much when compared with prices in shopping centers there.

Where else to eat?

Since we only took breakfast at the hotel, every day we looked for where to have lunch.

Near the Barry hotel there is a cafe "12 chairs". The food was not bad (except for fatty eggplant), but I didn’t take a picture of it. Fotkala menu

But there, of course, you can find less exotic food.

We also dined several times at the Moskva tavern, and we really liked it there.

Out of everything I've eaten, pineapple rice is just love.

Also came across this ice cream. It is made from any fruit right in front of your eyes. It is delicious, of course. But there is a LOT of it. It melts faster than two people can eat it.

On the last evening, we decided to have dinner at the Lena cafe, and it was also pretty good there.

We were in a tropical country for the first time, so we just tried everything we saw. Unfortunately, not everything was photographed.

Of everything we tried, naturally, we liked mango, noina, mangosteen, rambutan, lychee, longons, papaya.

Mangoes can often be bought from Muslim street vendors, but you need to be careful. Firstly, they weigh, and secondly, stickers are glued on spoiled places. But still, the mango there is simply divine everywhere.

For a long time they did not dare to buy this green thing - noina or sugar apple.

It was quite expensive. But in recent days, they have made up their minds. And regretted that they did not take earlier. She's sooo sweet like a cake

For a long time they looked at the nod or horned melon.

It was sold in few places and only in this form - with a straw and a bag of honey. Well, without honey, it would be almost like a lemon.

After repeated trips already along the hackneyed routes, Russian tourists wanted to visit something more exotic and unusual. As a result, after looking at the reviews of tourists and analyzing all the promised advantages of this holiday, we chose Hainan Island, which is located in the South China Sea. Also, an important criterion was the acceptable price tag for a holiday on the islands, since usually a holiday on any island is very, very expensive. Our trip lasted 13 days in a hotel called Haosheng sea view resort 3 *, which is located in Sanya Bay (the Chinese call it Sanya Wang). The bay itself is a 10-15 minute drive from the airport of Hainan Island, so we always saw and heard planes taking off and landing. Basically, it wasn't that hard.

We arrived on the island in the morning. After checking into the room, they gathered rather to the beach to look at the sea and the white sand, which was so promised by the tour operator and the manager at the travel agency. Upon arrival at the beach, we were deeply disappointed, since the sand was not white at all, but the most ordinary, as if from a sandbox. The sea is also disappointing. It was dirty and not transparent at all. In general, on the very first day we realized that we had not arrived where we expected. Because this island was so highly touted, much more was expected! Many even compare it with Hawaii, but only we asked ourselves the question "Why?".

As for food, in all hotels on the island only breakfast is included in the price, so people have lunch and dinner in street eateries and cafes. It is difficult to call these establishments restaurants. We preferred to buy groceries in regular grocery stores. This is due to the fact that many of the tourists who ate on the street were found to have food poisoning. It is understandable, since they prepare this food without observing any sanitary standards. They do not have this concept at all. Therefore, many tourists ended up walking out of the instant noodle shop.

As with any vacation, it is impossible to do without various excursion programs to the sights of these places. We went on a tour of the orchid garden. The program was free, so it was in great demand among tourists. We were brought to a huge greenhouse, in which many types of orchids of the most bizarre and unusual shapes and colors were blooming. One type of orchid had flowers that looked like a chrysalis in a yellow dress. There were even such types of orchids, the roots of which simply grew without soil, in the air. After that, we were brought to a tea ceremony, where we tried several types of Chinese tea, and after that we were offered to buy such tea. I note right away that buying exactly the same tea in a regular grocery store will cost several times cheaper.

Another no less interesting excursion we visited were thermal springs and pools. This place is a small park, where there are several dozen pools with different content. For example, a pool with wine, rose petals, coffee, coconut milk. There are also regular swimming pools.

We also went to the neighboring Dadonghai Bay on our own. It is the busiest and it is here that the famous shopping centers on Hainan Island, such as Winter-Summer and McDonald's, are located, where almost all vacationers here tend to get. Even the fact that the local shopping centers are huge in area and large in terms of the amount of goods sold, there is nothing to buy here. Since all the clothes sold on the island, the Russian person will not fit either in style or in height, because all Chinese are short in stature, and the styles are more like children's clothes. We also visited several fur shops. Many tourists rest on the island of Hainan, they want to buy a fur product at a low price, but the furs here are imported and they do not differ in low prices. Fur coats are brought from the mainland, and you need to buy them there. What you really should buy and try is exotic fruits. For example, mango and pineapple. Of course, we also have them in our country, but these fruits differ dramatically in taste. It should be remembered that when buying fruit on the street, you need to bargain and carefully look at the scales. Because very often Russians are hung precisely on fruits. We even noticed ourselves, when we bought fruits, there were Chinese in front of us, and the same fruits were sold to them much cheaper. It is best to buy fruits in stores, as there are promotions and the price can be cheaper than from street vendors.

In the last days of our holiday on the island there was a typhoon. It rained all day and we didn't leave the room at all. Palm trees were tumbled down, garbage was swollen on the street, and the sea spilled over the entire beach strip. So the last days we remember not very joyful. From souvenirs and gifts to relatives, tea, fruits, coconut sweets were purchased. We did not buy anything from clothes, since the choice here is only suitable for the population itself.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the rest on the island of Hainan did not live up to our hopes, and by the way tour operators praise this place, we were completely surprised.

A pedestrian street, a kind of Mecca for local and visiting travelers who love to stroll through shopping centers. In this place there are not only branded boutiques, but also shops with rare gifts, precious metal products, and there are also a lot of restaurants. Don't confuse this street with Pedestrian Street Number Two, which was opened in 2010. It also acts as a pedestrian alley with a large number of shops and interesting souvenir shops.

Hainan Island in China is famous for its coconut-based products, tropical fruits, and seafood throughout the year. Here you can buy tea, coffee beans, white and black pepper and all kinds of spices, delicacies, dried tropical fruits and dried seafood. If you are interested in something extraordinary, then on the island you will find pearls, items made of precious metals and stones, rock crystal, national Hainanese clothes.

And, of course, there are shopping centers that sell goods that are not taxed. Popular international cosmetic brands, well-known clothing and footwear brands, gold and pearl products and other things constantly lure travelers, and therefore, on any day of the week, all the shops here are crowded. On the island of Hainan, it is imperative to bargain, inflated prices here are a common thing. Be careful not to buy anything made from tortoise shell or coral, because by law the production of such products is prohibited on the island in order to protect natural resources and animals.

All organic food products are also confiscated by customs officers. No need to try to take unripe fruits out of the country, they will deteriorate while you take them home. A rather exotic fruit durian, for example, is completely forbidden to be transported because of its powerful peculiar aroma.

It is more correct to buy pearl beads, crystal products, gold jewelry in boutiques specially designed for such trade.

Some jewelry is not recommended to be purchased in a tourist place, the prices here will be much higher than the average for the town, but their quality and design will be similar to everywhere else. Often on the street you can see ladies with baskets offering pearls and other goods. You need to understand that these are fake.

Shopping prices in Sanya, as in all of China, become significantly higher if you are a resident of another country. The Chinese are oriental people, therefore they love to bargain and do it with pleasure. From the client they expect the same constructive participation in the holy act of buying and selling. So do not be embarrassed and rather take matters into your own hands!

As a rule, the merchant determines the cost from the ceiling, overestimating it by two or even three times. In large, elegant boutiques with written price tags, bargaining is also allowed, but in a special way - asking for a discount.

If you wish to buy yourself something from the national clothes of Sanya, it is better not to do this on tourist routes and in hotels - it is many times more expensive there. One set in the bazaars in the town will cost you 20-30 yuan maximum.

Taxi Free on Hainan Island

Since January 1, 2011, the Tax Free system has been operating in Hainan. When purchasing goods worth more than 5,000 yuan, when leaving the island through the airports of Haikou and Sanya settlements, 11% of the amount spent is returned to foreign travelers. The Tax Free system operates for 21 groups of goods, including clothes, shoes, cosmetics, haberdashery, articles made of precious stones and gold, watches, household appliances, and electronics.

Foreigners aged 18 years and older who leave Hainan by plane will be able to return the Tax on the Tax Free check. The tax refund offer can be used no more than 2 times a year.

To get Tax Free, you must do the following:

  1. Select a product in a tax-free store (in Sanya, this is the Summer Mall)
  2. When paying for the goods, complete the Tax Refund application form. To issue a tax free form, you must have a passport with you.
  3. On the day of departure at the airport at the customs desk, present the exported goods and receive a stamp from the customs officer on the return application form.
  4. After passing customs at the Tax Refund counter, receive a refund in cash, or order to transfer the refund amount to your bank card

Where to go shopping in Sanya

Depending on what you want to bring from Sanya, you should carefully choose where to shop. If you want to feel the real Chinese flavor and bring Chinese goods as a gift (although it is very difficult to find non-Chinese goods nowadays), then you should go shopping on the Jefan pedestrian street. They speak mainly Russian on Dzefan Street, so there will be no problems in communicating with sellers. It is customary to bargain on a pedestrian street, so if you don’t like to do this, be prepared to overpay. In addition to shops with all kinds of junk, you will also find catering establishments on Dzefan, mostly fast food.

Hainan gives the best pearls in China. It was from Hainan in ancient times that pearls were supplied to the imperial palace. And today, Hainan Island occupies a leading position in China in the extraction and export of high-quality pearls. The lifespan of jewelry made from Hainan pearls is about one hundred or two hundred years. You can buy goods and jewelry made from locally produced pearls in specialized stores: the Heren Pearl Museum, the Jinjun Pearl Museum, the Jinjun Pearl Culture House, as well as from merchants on the beach.

In addition to pearls from local products, you can recommend products made from precious and semi-precious stones, tropical fruits (including dried fruits), fish and seafood (including dried ones), silk and unique embroideries in the national style. All this can be viewed and purchased at the first market, which is located on the same Dzefan street.

Sanya is not only the southern capital of the island of Hainan, but it is also a tourist center, which attracts most of the tourists who come to this amazing place, which is called Eastern Hawaii for a reason. There are 2 airports on the island: one in Haikou, and the other - Phoenix - in Sanya. It was at this airport that I flew when. But we were so exhausted by flights that we didn’t have the strength to admire the city from the window of the bus that took us to. But impressions from Sanya over the course of 5 months I grabbed with a vengeance. And even managed to live in it. But more on that later.

It so happened that I got to Sanya only a month later from the day of arrival to Hainan Island. And I went there with one wonderful family, our tourists, with whom we still communicate. On this day, I received so many positives that it is beyond words. We got to Sanya by bus, which runs once a day, in the morning, and only if the tourist had signed up at the hotel desk the night before. It turned out absolutely unexpectedly that we were going to go to Sanya all together: me and my friends from Tyumen: Sasha, Nastya, Marina and their wonderful children Egor, Ilya and Alina, who disappeared all day long with us.

And Alina did not get off my hands in the evening.

Malls, shops and shopping in Sanya

The guys' tour was coming to an end, and they decided to go to Sanya for Chinese souvenirs and other purchases. We went to buy goods in WINTER-SUMMER, a shopping center with low prices (Chinese flea market), which is located in Dadonghai Bay. There is another place in this city that is favorite among tourists - PEDESTRIAN. This is a street with many shops and cafes, which is located in Sanya Bay. But the prices for souvenirs here are 2.5 times higher when compared with WINTER-SUMMER.

To understand better, let me explain. The whole city of Sanya is divided into bays: Sanya Bay, Yalunvan, Dadonghai and others. And now each bay is divided into its districts.

So, we arrived in Dadonghai and immediately went shopping, as there were many plans, and time was limited. I briefly broke away from my wonderful company and decided to look into the SUMMER MALL, which was opposite the WINTER-SUMMER. And ... I didn’t find anything interesting there for myself. An ordinary shopping center with many expensive boutiques, in which, of course, I was not going to buy anything. I walked, looked and joined my friends. It was much more interesting and fun with them. Sanya was so hot there, persuading the Russian-speaking Chinese to drop the price of the goods. I even filmed the scene from the “tea shop from Irina”. Watch and learn how to bargain with the Chinese.

So, from the main entrance of the Sheraton Hotel, we took a regular bus and got to the station of the town of Wanning for 10 yuan for two. There we bought tickets to Sanya for 33.5 yuan per person and left by train. I felt like a pioneer for Marinka, I told everything, led, showed. But, in the end, it turned out to be Ivan Susanin. From Sanya Station

we got on the sinister bus number 2 (why I dubbed it that way, I'll tell you next time) and, in my opinion, should have come to Dadonghai. As a result, we got lost and drove around the city for 2 hours in search of at least some familiar building. In the end, on this day we also visited a pedestrian walkway, where we were stunned by the prices; and in the Dadonghai Bay, where they had a very tasty meal (by the way, at the same Sasha);

and even to Boao, where we got by passing the Wanning station by train.

To get from Boao to, we paid a taxi driver, if my memory didn’t break, 500 yuan. Not only is the distance not small, plus everything it was already late in the evening, and even New Year's Eve. Well, yes, I have such a feature, to find on my “same” adventure. But, there is something to remember. And these are, perhaps, my two most striking trips to Sanya from December to February. Well, about how I returned to Sanya in the spring and lived there for 2.5 months, I will tell you in Sanya - the southern capital of Hainan Island (part 2) . Because that's a completely different story.
