Day trips from Prague

#1. Karlovy Vary

A small town in the west of the country, which is the first place to visit from Prague, is famous for its mineral springs. There are fifteen of them in total and they are all well equipped. There are many sanatoriums, as it is believed that local waters are useful for diseases of the stomach, liver and intestines. Of course, in order to receive full treatment, you need to come here for a longer period, but there is a lot to see in the city in one day.

Among the main attractions: the Geyser Colonnade, the Jan Becher Museum with the Becherovka brand store, the Diana Tower with an observation deck from where you can see the city and the surrounding area, the Moser Glass Factory - the birthplace of Czech royal crystal. Even just walking around the city is quite interesting. Don't forget about the local forest parks, where there are trails for hiking.

To travel to Karlovy Vary, it is best to take an excursion. This way there will be fewer problems with tickets. This is a popular destination, it’s worth booking several days in advance, especially for early flights, which sell out quickly. If possible, you can order an individual route - for example, a 10-hour excursion. If the cost of 229 EUR is divided by a company of seven people, it comes out to just over 30 EUR.

If you decide to get there on your own, we recommend choosing a bus.

Buses depart from the Florence bus station (nearby is the metro of the same name), flights start at 6:30 and then every hour. The cost of the trip is 149 CZK, and the journey will take you just over two hours. The last departure from Karlovy Vary is at 20:00. But by train from the Main Station you will have to travel an hour longer. In addition, only the first train is suitable, which leaves very early, at 5:18. If you go second, you will be there closer to eleven. The ticket will cost 10 CZK more (2nd class).

By the way, be careful when purchasing tickets at the box office. It is necessary not only to name the destination station, but also to stipulate the absence of transfers.

This will not affect the cost, but two or three transfers may be arranged for you. This is true for all destinations in the Czech Republic. In our article, ticket prices are provided subject to advance purchase. If you take them directly on the day of departure, the cost will increase two to three times.

#2. Karlštejn Castle

One of the most popular places for Saturday and Sunday rest among Prague residents themselves. This is explained not only by its proximity to the capital - it is only 30 km away, but also by its rich history and picturesque surroundings. called one of the symbols of the country. In any case, without visiting the most famous castle in the Czech Republic, the trip can hardly be called complete.

Getting to it is as easy as shelling pears. A commuter train departs from Prague every half hour to the city of Beroun. You need to get to the stop, which is called Karlštejn. It will take about forty minutes, and you will have to pay 55 CZK. There is also a bus that goes to the castle. Line 311 departs from Zličín metro station every 30 minutes. But this is an ordinary city bus that makes many stops, and the journey takes 50 minutes.

#3. Liberec

One of the most modern, which has not lost touch with the past. A futuristic TV tower and an ancient town hall in the Gothic style, Liberec Castle and a zoo with open-air enclosures coexist here. You can visit the botanical garden and water park, take the cable car to Mount Jested.

There are several large castles in the surrounding area, but it is better to set aside a separate day to visit them. Otherwise, Liberec is a great idea for a one-day excursion from Prague - take note!

Despite the fact that Liberec is a fairly large city by Czech standards and almost one hundred thousand people live there, there is no direct train from Prague. In terms of time and money, the most profitable option for the railway is to make a transfer in Turnov, but it still takes 2.5 hours and 109 CZK.

It takes a little over an hour to get there by bus, the trip will cost 89 CZK. The final stop in Prague is near the Černý Most station, the travel interval is one hour.

#4. Czech krumlov

A small but very atmospheric city, the architecture of which has remained almost unchanged since the late Middle Ages. Even part of the city walls and fortifications have been preserved. The historical center is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The only negative is that you will have to walk almost everywhere; the streets are so narrow that modern transport will not fit there. There are many attractions in the city, so it is better to book a tour from Prague to see them all.

The Krumlov Castle is definitely worth a visit. It is the second largest preserved in the Czech Republic and is interesting not only from the point of view of beauty. In the summer, costume festivals are held on its territory, which recreate the life of the past. In addition, you should definitely take a walk along the Cloak Bridge, the town hall and the streets of the city, look into the Minorite monastery, local museums, the Egon Schiele art center and the Fairytale House, where puppet theater performances take place.

There are two options for organized trips to Krumlov to choose from:

  • Group for 27 EUR per person. It takes place on a large bus with a guide. The group has up to 50 people;
  • A more interesting, but also slightly more expensive option is an individual excursion lasting 10 hours. Cost 250 EUR per group of up to 4 people.

For those who want to organize a trip from Prague on their own. The direct train from Prague to Cesky Krumlov leaves late - at 8 am. However, you can take the Prague-Linz Express, which leaves the Main Station at 6:02, and get off at Ceske Budejovice station, where after 9 minutes you can transfer to the train heading to Nové Udoli. It's not as convenient as the express train and has a lot of stops, but you'll be there in 45 minutes.

The bus to Krumlov starts departing at 6:00, but its final destination is not the Florence bus station, but the Na Knížecí station. The journey in both cases takes almost three hours, and the travel cost is 189 CZK.

#5. Kutna Hora

Ossuary - one of the strangest attractions in the Czech Republic

Usually in the Czech Republic, bus routes are more convenient than train routes. In this direction it is not true. Trains (direct or with a change in Kolin) go to Kutna Hora every hour and a half, the ticket costs 89 CZK, and the journey time is about 60 minutes. In addition to historical attractions such as Duchcov Castle or the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Teplice has a beautiful Botanical Garden and Lake Barbora.

If you still decide to get there on your own, then, like everywhere else in the Czech Republic, you will have to choose between bus and train transport. In principle, both methods are convenient, but most often they choose the train. The fact is that it departs from the Main Station approximately every two hours, starting at 5:18.

But buses leave from Holesovice station from 7:30, although at hourly intervals. This means that you will need more time on the metro. The cost is almost the same: the train will cost 79 CZK, and the bus - 69 CZK.

The best time to travel around Europe is in the fall. At this time of year it is no longer so hot, but also not so cold. Therefore, your luggage may consist of several things, among which there is no place for hats, fur coats and mittens.

The most interesting thing may be traveling by car to the Czech Republic. You will have unlimited time and will be able to leisurely and thoroughly examine all the sights of the Czech Republic and Prague. As a rule, trips to Europe by car also begin with a visit to the Czech Republic. Or rather, from the ancient capital -. This city is very different from other Czech cities. A huge number of temples are concentrated here. And the people here are completely different. With its own special language and culture. There are many legends about the city. And how many architectural monuments, ancient buildings, and monasteries there are here. There is plenty for lovers of antiquity to explore.

After exploring the modern capital, you can turn to the historical capital of Saxony. This Dresden. Compared to Prague, there are significantly fewer tourists here. For almost seven hundred years, this city was the residence of kings and dukes. But the Second World War almost wiped this city off the face of the earth. But even what remains there is impressive. Here, as in many cities in this area, you can touch the beauty. The city is also famous for the fact that the very first porcelain was produced here. The first gymnasiums were also opened here. In the older part of the city is the Theater Square, in the center of which is the Dresden Opera. In your free time from general excursions, you can wander around the museums. This is both a weapons museum and a jewelry museum, a visit to which will be more interesting for the fair half of humanity. So the trip from Prague to Dresden will also be quite interesting. Many people go to Dresden from Prague by train. I went in the morning and returned in the evening. Although such a trip turns out to be a “gallop”.

By the way, a train ticket from Prague to Dresden and back costs about 50 euros. It is valid for a month once “there” and once “back”. Trains from Prague to Dresden run every 3 hours. Usually these are only intermediate stops, and trains go from Vienna to Berlin and the like. To purchase a ticket, you do not need to know the exact travel dates and show your passport. Although you need to take your passport with you, sometimes the police check your documents on the train.

It is definitely worth visiting one of the largest. The healing springs of the Czech Republic are certainly considered the most famous throughout the world. Famous Czech porcelain and glassware are also produced here. Picturesque landscapes, impressive ancient monuments, cozy hotels, romantic orchestras. All this will not leave even experienced travelers indifferent.

Don't forget about South Bohemia. This is the most romantic part of the country. There are a huge number of natural forests and castles. The people here are kind and cheerful. And what kind of wine is produced here? You definitely haven't tried anything like this anywhere. Castles, which are located at almost every step, will help you travel back to the times when the nobles lived. One of these castles is called .

Next, we smoothly move to. This is a fairy-tale “town in a snuffbox”. It's so incredibly cozy. And the houses in it are small, like toys, and they are all completely different, multi-colored and of different styles. But all are equipped with openwork balconies, vaulted arches and small outbuildings. And this city smells special. Ancient paving stones that felt the clatter of the hooves of knightly horses and the springs of royal carriages. It smells of the beautiful Vltava River, pine needles, mountains, tiles heated in the sun and wild grapes that freely cover all the back walls. Yes Yes. As well as fresh beer and fried steak. By the way, the portions in the cafe are king size and affordable. It is unlikely that you will be able to master them completely, despite the fact that the food there is incredibly delicious.

Do you know that the film “The Illusionist” was filmed in Cesky Krumlov? Although the film takes place in Austria, the village where Eisenheim grew up is Cesky Krumlov. The “Austrian” castle, which had a lot of trophies, was also not Austrian at all, but Czech.

Still from the film The Illusionist.

This city also captivates with its “honesty”. In the sense that everything there is real, not fake. People live in these old houses, ancient sluices and water valves work, and monks still live in the castle and monastery. Travel from Prague to Cesky Krumlov very interesting. You can go by car or through a travel agency.

Prices excursion from Prague to Cesky Krumlov .

Arriving in this city, you can forget about the modern world. Of course, Krumlov has grown, but when you find yourself in the historical part of the city, thanks to the preserved architecture of the city in its original form, a complete illusion is created that you are being transported to the Middle Ages. All the same houses with tiled roofs, the same streets with their own characteristics of past centuries. Yes, this city also knew an era of prosperity and then oblivion, but every cloud has a silver lining. Having lost the status of the most prestigious place in Europe back in the 17th century, Cesky Krumlov seemed to have been mothballed, retaining its medieval appearance. It was spared the wars that swept across Europe, and today Cesky Krumlov is a living open-air museum.

Vein. Another amazing city. Waltzes, music, love. There is plenty of this here. The city adheres to the ancient rules of life. Here you can feel like an important person. It's worth just taking a ride in a carriage drawn by beautiful horses. Wherever you go, the sounds of Mozart's works flow everywhere. And in the evening, elegantly dressed ladies, accompanied by gallant gentlemen, make their way to the city hall, where a ball is held for them. The aristocracy and grace are simply mesmerizing. The journey from Prague to Vienna takes only a few hours.

But Krakow is better known as a city where the main population is artists and musicians. The city is famous for many legends and jokes. Here you can even visit the real royal palace, which is called Wawel. One of the many attractions of this city is the St. Mary's Church, where you can see a trumpeter perform. Believe me, it's worth watching! In this city, you may even be surprised by the culinary abilities of the chefs of any restaurants. When crossing the border of states in Schengen, no stamps are placed on your passport; passports, as a rule, are not checked. You will only have to go through border control from the cities listed below when traveling to Vilnius by train. However, if you go to Vilnius by bus or fly, then you will not leave the Schengen countries zone, and, accordingly, you will not need to cross the border.
