This autumn we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Second Great Poet of Russia - Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. He lived a short but interesting life, leaving behind wonderful works that are relevant and interesting to this day. Reading them, we plunge into the thoughtful and unusual world of the poet and writer, into his thoughts and soul. But also to understand and get to know M.Yu. Lermontov will help us travel through Lermontov's places in Russia, which still keep the memory of him ... We will visit the main places in Russia associated with the life and work of M.Yu. Lermontov, and we will make stops in chronological order. So, we will start from the capital of our Motherland - Moscow.

1. Moscow. M. Yu. Lermontov was born in Moscow on October 3 (15), 1814 in the family of army captain Yuri Petrovich Lermontov and Maria Mikhailovna Lermontova (nee Arsenyeva). The Russian branch of the Lermontov family originated from George Lermontov, a native of Scotland.

2. Tarkhans of the Penza province . After the death of his mother, grandmother Elizaveta Alekseevna immediately took her beloved grandson to her estate Tarkhany in the Penza province, referring to the poverty of the army captain - the boy's father. Here she surrounded her grandson with care and affection, spared no expense for the comprehensive development of little Misha. But the family drama still left its mark on the character of the future poet. Frequent illnesses and rare meetings with his father contributed to the early development in Lermontov of an analytical attitude towards himself and the world around him.

3. Caucasus. When Mikhail was 10 years old, his grandmother took him to the Caucasus, to Goryachevodsk, for the treatment of rheumatic disease. Here the boy experienced his first love, which he later remembered all his life. And since then, Mikhail Yuryevich considered the Caucasus to be his poetic homeland. Constant introspection and mental concentration contributed to the early maturation of feelings and thoughts.

4. Moscow. In 1827, Elizaveta Alekseevna brought her grandson to Moscow to continue her education. After excellent home training in 1828, Lermontov was accepted immediately intoIVclass of the Moscow University Noble boarding school. During this period, Lermontov works very intensively, a stream of poems fills one notebook after another. All these poems are interconnected and resemble a kind of lyrical diary of Lermontov's soul, busy with intense introspection. “In the end, I found that my best relative is myself,” he writes in one of his letters.

5. Petersburg. In 1832 M.Yu. Lermontov is forced to leave Moscow University due to a conflict with some professors. He goes to St. Petersburg in the hope of continuing his studies, but he is refused credit for the subjects he listened to in Moscow. Then Mikhail Yuryevich chooses a military field for himself. After graduating from school in 1835, he was sent to serve in Tsarskoye Selo. During this period, the public convictions of the writer are formed.

6. Caucasus . For the bold lines of the poem "The Death of a Poet", dedicated to A. S. Pushkin, Lermontov was sent into exile in the Caucasus. He was arrested on February 18, 1837.

7. Petersburg . In late November - early December of the same year, the efforts of a loving grandmother were crowned with success. And in 1838 Lermontov returned to St. Petersburg, to the place of the old service. Here he was met as a famous and disgraced poet. On January 1, 1840, young I.S. Turgenev saw him at a masquerade and later wrote: “...There was something sinister and tragic in Lermontov's appearance; some kind of gloomy and unkind power emanated from his swarthy face, from his large and motionless dark eyes. Their heavy gaze strangely disagreed with the expression of almost childishly tender and protruding lips. His whole figure, squat, bow-legged, with a large head on stooped shoulders, aroused an unpleasant sensation; but everyone was immediately aware of the inherent power ... Inwardly, Lermontov, probably, was deeply bored; he was suffocating in the narrow sphere into which fate had pushed him ... "

8. Caucasus . This time in St. Petersburg the circle of literary acquaintances of the poet expanded even more. But soon his quarrel with the son of the French envoy de Barante was set up, who, on a trifling occasion, challenged Lermontov to a duel in February 1840. As a result, the opponents reconciled, but the rumor about the duel spread throughout St. Petersburg. Lermontov was arrested, and he was again transferred to the North Caucasus, where the poet fought and risked his life. Meanwhile, in St. Petersburg, his novel “A Hero of Our Time” was published, the success of which exceeded all expectations. The last poems of Mikhail Yurievich were filled with fatal forebodings. Such, for example, is his "Dream", written in Pyatigorsk, where the poet was left by a military doctor for treatment.

Subsequently, M.Yu. Lermontov comes to understand and realize the harmony between heaven and earth, finds consolation in nature, pacifying the anxieties of his rebellious heart, the world of people becomes alien and hostile to him. He needs a different peace, free from the power of inexorable time and the weight of earthly fetters. Lermontov not only had a premonition of death approaching him, but he himself reached out for it. And the case ... - he did not keep himself waiting. Because of a caustic joke, a duel was scheduled between Lermontov and his friend from the cadet school, Martynov. On July 15, about five o'clock in the evening, a terrible storm broke out with lightning and thunder. And at that very moment, Lermontov, who refused to shoot at Martynov, was killed by him five steps away - in the chest, right through - between the mountains of Mashuk and Beshtau ... The tragic prophecies of the poet came true ... The second great poet of Russia, who was only 26 years old, passed away. Buried M.Yu. Lermontov in the family crypt in Tarkhany.

So, our virtual tour has come to an end. We hope that it was interesting for you to lift the veil of secrecy of the main events in the life of the Great Russian poet, which took place in the places of Russia, later called Lermontov's.

07:35 Arrival in Penza. Meeting with the guide at the information desk of the railway station "Penza-1".

Breakfast.

Sightseeing tour "In Penza, the whole history of Russia ..."

You will meet with an old Russian city, which is picturesquely spread out on high hills above the Sura River and where the plot of one of the novels by Alexander Dumas was born. Here the poet Denis Davydov felt like in Parnassus, and Pyotr Vyazemsky felt like in a little Paris. In the old quarters of the city, houses have been preserved that remember famous fellow countrymen and guests: critic Vissarion Belinsky, director Vsevolod Meyerhold, historian Vasily Klyuchevsky, writers Nikolai Leskov and Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, Lenin's father Ilya Ulyanov, "Red Napoleon" Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky.

Excursion to the Penza Art Gallery- one of the oldest in Russia. The ancient building with spacious halls and rich stucco decoration made by Konstantin Klodt has a rich collection. In this temple of picturesque silence and special soulfulness, paintings by Ilya Repin, Isaac Levitan, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Ivan Shishkin are presented. The collection of Russian avant-garde is considered to be the "Golden Fund". Here is the third largest collection of works by Aristarkh Lentulov - this "newcomer from Penza", "dumpy hare". Lentulov depicted in color the same thing that Mayakovsky did in words. The gallery presents one of the largest collections of works by Robert Falk in Russia.

Dinner in a cafe in the city.

Excursion to the world-famous Museum of Performing Arts, the first Meyerhold memorial in Russia and abroad. Today Meyerhold means not only a specific creative person, a spiritual essence, but is also a symbol of a free culture of the world. In the living room of the old house where the director grew up, there is now an unusual theater that fulfills the dream of the great master and works in the tradition of the Italian comedy mask theater dell "arte.

Excursion to the country's first museum of the great Russian historian Klyuchevsky opened in the house where he grew up. Without entering into polemics with anyone, in his famous work "A Short Course in Russian History" he gave his understanding of Russian history, brilliantly, prophetically foreseeing the future of Russia. He owns the phrase: "History will not teach anything, but will punish for ignorance of the lessons." In terms of the impact of his lectures on the audience, Klyuchevsky was compared with Chaliapin, Yermolova, Rachmaninov, performances of the Art Theater. He helped Chaliapin in creating the images of Ivan the Terrible and Boris Godunov. Impressed by his lecture, the artist Valentin Serov created the famous sketch "Peter I". The monument to Klyuchevsky in Penza, as well as the museum named after him, are the only ones in Russia.

Transfer to the hotel. Settlement. Free time.

Pyatigorsk attracts not only with luxurious nature, mineral waters and therapeutic mud, for me it is primarily a city associated with the name of Lermontov. In Pyatigorsk, a lot reminds of the poet. Here you are walking down the street down to the Flower Garden, and on the right is Lermontov’s house, the same as it was during the life of the poet, here is the monument to the poet, by the way, the first in Russia, and here is Diana’s grotto, where Lermontov had fun at the ball a week before his death. Well, the Academic Gallery in general was at that time the center of resort life, here Lermontov watched the "water society". Yes, years have passed, a lot has changed, but Lermontov's places in Pyatigorsk are still saturated with the amazing atmosphere of that time.

For the first time, Mikhail Lermonov came to Pyatigorsk together with his grandmother Elizaveta Alekseevna Arsenyeva, who, after the death of her mother, took over all the worries for raising the boy. It was in 1818, when the future poet was still at a very young age. His grandmother brought him here and then, when he grew up a little. Elizaveta Alekseevna stayed with her grandson at her sister's house, which was located at the foot of Mount Goryachaya. From all sides there was a view of the mountain peaks, and nearby - springs with mineral water, wonderful nature. Even then, Lermontov fell in love with the Caucasus, immediately and forever.

A new meeting of the poet with Pyatigorsk took place in 1837. For the rebellious poem "On the Death of a Poet" Lermontov was sent to serve in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment, but on the way he caught a bad cold and went to Pyatigorsk. walking - in a month the waters completely corrected me," wrote Lermontov. That's it! And try to say after that that you do not believe in the healing properties of Caucasian mineral waters!

From Pyatigorsk, having healed and gained strength, Lermontov travels further to the Caucasus, to his duty station, to Tiflis, where he stayed until the end of the year. In 1938, returning to St. Petersburg, Lermontov wrote "Mtsyri", "A Hero of Our Time", a Caucasian version of the poem "Demon". And everywhere the beauty of the Caucasus and the people who met there. But it was not possible to realize all the plans - for a duel with the son of the French ambassador, he was again sent to the Caucasus, in the thick of the fighting, where he proved himself to be a brave and talented commander, for which he was presented with a short vacation to St. Petersburg. In St. Petersburg, he submitted a letter of resignation, deciding to devote his life to the literary craft, but the request was not granted, and Lermontov again went to the Caucasus.

The last time Lermontov came to Pyatigorsk was in May 1841. And Pyatigorsk became the last refuge of the great poet, a witness to the last months of his life. Walking around Lermontov's places, you imagine the life of a small resort town of that time, unhurried walks of the "water society", balls, simple entertainments of youth, but the bitter feeling of loss does not leave you, how is it, a young, talented poet, the flowering of creativity and - an absurd tragic death !

Lermontov lived for less than 27 years, leaving behind a huge "literary legacy": the poems "Demon", "Mtsyri", "Song about the merchant Kalashnikov", the play "Masquerade", the poem "Borodino", the first Russian psychological novel "A Hero of Our Time" ... The list can be long: the poet left to his descendants over 400 poems, about 40 poems, 6 dramas and 3 novels.

The Lermontov House is one of the first literary and memorial museums in Russia. The history of the museum began in 1912. Before that, and this is not a lot, not a little - 70 years, no one especially took care of the house, it passed from hand to hand to private owners, and, alas, gradually collapsed. Fortunately, there were caring people who nevertheless managed to influence the local authorities, and the city duma bought the estate and placed it at the disposal of the Caucasian Mining Committee.

In subsequent years, the museum was expanded by adding the neighboring estate of the Verzilins. Colossal work on the restoration of the museum complex was constantly taking place. All efforts were aimed at giving the museum its original appearance. And it worked out - Lermontov's house retains its original appearance to this day.

In the 70s of the 20th century the museum was renamed into the State Museum-Reserve of M.Yu.Lermontov. And among the people a warm and kind name has been established - Lermontov's House.

1

This house belonged to the nobleman and captain Vasily Chulaev. In the owner’s house book it is written: “From Captain Alexei Arkadyevich Stolypin and Lieutenant Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov from St. Petersburg, 100 rubles were received in silver for the entire average house. Lermontov spent the last 2 months of his life here. The poet’s body was brought to this house of Lermontov on July 15 1841 after a tragic duel...

There are four rooms in total. Two of them facing the garden are "Lermontov's half". The door of one of the rooms leads to a small terrace, on which Lermontov liked to relax and work, bringing here a small sofa table, which is still kept in the house.

2

The location of the cottage is excellent. Nearby, you just need to go down a little - a flower garden, baths, not far from the Academic Gallery. Well, the beauty of the surrounding nature was mesmerizing. Particularly impressive was the view from the terrace of the house to the majestic Caucasian mountains, Mashuk - here it is, nearby, and on the contrary - Elbrus, at that time the development of Pyatigorsk was loose and low-rise, so from the same terrace in good weather it was possible to admire Elbrus, Yutsa, Dzhutsa . Certainly beautiful mountain landscapes could not but inspire the poet to write his immortal works.

2

And we go to the house where the museum itself is located. The exhibits in the museum are authentic, what was originally in the house, and what was transported from St. Petersburg.

In the living room in a small pantry, where meals cooked in the kitchen located on the basement floor were brought, household items are stored. Among them are a silver milk jug and a faience plate belonging to Lermontov, as well as a camping folding samovar. Through the glass door of the cupboard in the pantry, you can see an old towel with the coat of arms of the Lermontov family embroidered on it.

2

Lermontov was very fond of working at a table near an open window, behind which a wonderful cherry tree grew. On the desk are notes, books that Lermontov was interested in in the last days of his life. The atmosphere here is amazing. Just think, here Lermontov lived and worked, thought, dreamed. Here he wrote his last poems:

I go out alone on the road;

Through the mist the flinty path gleams;

The night is quiet. The desert listens to God

And the star speaks to the star.

2

The former house of I. V. Umanov is also located on the territory of the museum complex, where you can now see the exposition “M. Y. Lermontov in Fine Arts” - portraits, sculptures, illustrations for works.

In Pyatigorsk that day was a big holiday. And I was lucky to be there. And I'll tell you, it was really a holiday, with many guests, with concerts, with fireworks and, of course, with Lermontov's poems. They were read everywhere and everywhere, writers and ordinary people, with tears in their eyes and trembling in their voices, Lermontov's lines were read by people of very advanced years and preschool children cheerfully and provocatively. In such performances, a special symbolism was felt: Lermontov is alive and still loved as much as many years ago!

Here's another interesting fact. On October 15, Channel One conducted a small survey in Moscow, asking passers-by on the street: "Do you know Lermontov? Can you read anything from his work?" And everyone (!!!) knew Lermontov, and everyone (!!!) read his poems by heart, at least a few lines, but they did! This is the most important birthday present for a poet - universal recognition!

Entrance to the museum that day was free. According to the most conservative estimates, on October 15, 2014, over 3 thousand visitors visited the museum.

4

All day long, a free microphone worked at the estate, and everyone could come up to him and voice his declaration of love to the poet.

On one of the green meadows of the estate, an exhibition of portraits of the poet from the collection of the museum "My Lermontov" was arranged. These are the works of artists of the 20th and already 21st centuries, made in a different style and in different techniques, but so reverently and subtly conveying the image of the poet.

Not far from Lermontov's House is the Verzilin's house, where the family of Major General P.S. Verzilin lived. Young people gathered here and M.Yu. Lermontov often visited. The poet loved to have fun, laugh, dance. Sometimes he entertained himself and others with witty impromptu. On the evening of July 13, 1841, here, in the living room, Lermontov had a quarrel with Martynov, which served as a pretext for a duel. It was not even a quarrel, Lermontov simply awarded Martynov with the nickname "Highlander with a Dagger", and at a party at the Verzilins', Lermontov said to the hostess of the house: "Emilia, beware, a ferocious mountaineer is approaching," word for word, and this is how everything turned out. Looking at those events from our time, it seems incredible that because of an absurd joke, a poet was killed, whom Russia is still proud of!

The Verzilin house hosts an exposition "Lermontov in the Caucasus", which includes historical documents, autographs of the poet, his paintings and drawings.

Near the house of the Verzilins, but this is already on Buachidze Street, there are ticket offices where you can buy tickets to the Lermontov House Museum.

Well, we move on. And then - the square named after Lermontov, where in 1889 the first monument to Lermontov in Russia was erected. On a granite pedestal there is a bronze sculpture of the poet with Mashuk behind his back. Lermontov's gaze is fixed on Elbrus and the Caucasus Range. At the feet of the poet is an open book, a pen, a lyre and a bronze wreath.

2

In order to build a monument to Lermontov, somewhere in 1870, the collection of voluntary donations began. Lermontov readings, concerts, lotteries were held to raise money as quickly as possible. A competition for the best design of the monument was announced in 1881. More than 120 proposals were received. According to the results of the competition, A.M. Opekushin, who had previously drafted the monument to Pushkin in Moscow. As they say, this monument was not only the best work of the sculptor, but also the best Russian monument to Lermontov.

Events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the poet were also held in Lermontov Square. Guests from Moscow and other cities, vacationers, residents of the city, and media representatives gathered in the square in front of the monument. Musical groups - children's, student and eminent ones - festively sounded this day! The abundance of people in uniform is another feature of the holiday. Lermontov is honored not only as a poet, but also as a Russian officer.

The days of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of M.Yu. Lermontov coincided with a real golden autumn in Pyatigorsk. Autumn gave the residents and guests of the city warm sunny days and bright colors of Indian summer. It seems that nature itself celebrated the birthday of the great poet together with everyone.

As part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the poet, on October 15, a grand opening took place after the restoration of the monument to Lermontov. Military bands, a guard of honor company, fireworks, anniversary banners and Lermontov's poems resounding throughout the city - all this created a comprehensive atmosphere of a great and special holiday.

2

Well, we're going to the Flower Garden. In 1828, under the leadership of the Bernardazzi brothers, a hotel was built near the Flower Garden park - the Restaurant. In this building, decorated with six columns, those who came to the waters stopped, here they had fun. Lermontov in the story "Princess Mary" gives a description of the ball in the Restaurant: "The hall of the Restaurant turned into a hall of the Noble Assembly. At nine o'clock everyone gathered ... The dances began in Polish; then the waltz began. The spurs rang, the tails rose and spun."

And in honor of the 200th anniversary of Lermontov, an Officers' Ball was held in Pyatigorsk. It was not an ordinary ball, but a ball as it was at the beginning of the 19th century, when Lermontov lived! The venue for the ball was the halls of the historic building of the Restaurant, which remember the balls of those times and Lermontov at them.

2

Lermontov often visited this grotto, which bears the name of Diana. This artificial cave in a park on the northern slope of Mount Goryachaya was built according to the design of the Bernardazzi brothers in 1829. A week before his tragic death in a duel, the poet was the organizer of a ball in this grotto, about which there are many memories of the participants in the fun. Inside the grotto is not very spacious, so most likely the whole party took place on the platform in front of the grotto.

3

In the middle of the gorge separating Goryachaya Mountain and the Mikhailovsky Spur of Mashuk, the light white stone building of the Elizabethan Gallery arose, as if connecting them. The gallery got its name from the name of F.P. Haas source. "I'll go to the Elisabeth spring," we read in M.Yu.

At the Elisabeth Spring, Pechorin meets with the Junker Grushnitsky. Here they met Princess Mary: “Easier than a bird, she jumped up to him (Grushnitsky), raised a glass and gave it to him with a gesture of inexpressible charm; calmed down. When Grushnitsky opened his mouth to thank her, she was already far away. So a romantic story began here, which ended with a duel between Pechorin and Grushnitsky.

Now the gallery is called Academic, in honor of the bicentenary of the Academy of Sciences (1925).

1

When visiting Lermontov's places in Pyatigorsk, one cannot ignore the Lermontov Grotto. The grotto appeared naturally, the Berdanazzi brothers only deepened it in 1829. It was here that the writer liked to come to observe the "water society".

2

The grotto was associated with the name of Lermontov only in the 1860s. Most likely, then this plate appeared.

Not far from Lermontov's grotto, if you climb a little up the stairs in the old park, there is a gazebo called "Aeolian Harp", which was built according to the project of the architects of the Bernardazzi brothers in the early 30s of the 19th century on an elevated point of the eastern tip of the spur of Mount Mashuk. The pavilion is mentioned in M.Yu. Lermontov's story "Princess Mary": "On a steep rock where a pavilion called the Aeolian harp was built, lovers of views stuck out and pointed their telescope at Elbrus." And now, next to the Aeolian harp, there is a telescope through which you can view the surroundings.

5

Built on the slope of Mashuk, the gazebo attracts attention with its graceful outlines.

When young Lermontov came to Pyatigorsk, there was no pavilion yet, in its place was a Cossack outpost. And the boy, who lived almost at the foot of the mountain ledge, on which the Aeolian Harp is now located, at night heard the call of sentries:

You can only hear: who is coming?

Only a loud "Listen" is heard.
