Unfound treasures of the Crimea. Crimean treasures. Chronology of the largest finds Treasures found by black diggers in the Crimea

Crimea attracts not only those who want to relax or travel, but also obsessed treasure hunters "diggers".
And this is not surprising - because the Crimea has an interesting and ancient history. Nowadays, the attraction to the search for treasures is as strong as in ancient times.
In the museums of Ukraine, Russia and the Crimea in particular, unique items made of gold and silver, the finest work that were found in the Crimea, are exhibited.
Most of them are not random finds, but the result of the painstaking work of archaeologists who are excavating ancient burial mounds and necropolises.
But treasures, this is a special case. Anyone can find them, and in most cases, quite by accident.
A clay pot full of coins can be easily found when digging in your garden, or you can find a treasure hidden for savings in an old house behind fallen off plaster.
Wars often happened in the Crimea, different peoples constantly replaced each other. People, leaving their habitable places, in the hope of returning, hid the most valuable thing. Therefore, in the Crimea, treasures and treasures are found more often than anywhere else.
A modern person often keeps valuables and money in various banking institutions, and in the old days, peoples hid them in the ground, in the walls or in the basements of their houses.
Each treasure has its own fate, is associated with some personal tragedy: the one who hid it for some reason could not return for the acquired and hidden good - whether he died in battle, or was taken prisoner, or died of deprivation or diseases.

Who owns the treasures of Crimea?

According to the legislation, any treasure found that has been in the ground or under water for more than three hundred years belongs entirely to the state. If the treasure is younger, the one who found it is entitled to 25% of its value.
Deliberate search for treasures is prohibited by law. If a treasure hunter is caught by the hand, he will be punished under a criminal article. Despite the many legends about hidden treasures, none of them has yet led to large treasures.
They have always been found by accident.

Here are data on only some of the large and famous treasures found on the Crimean Peninsula.

1886, the so-called "Neyzat treasure". Discovered by a German colonist in the settlement of Neyzats (now Belogorsk district) during the repair of a mill dam. The clay vessel contained 466 silver coins of the 14th century and more than fifty women's jewelry.

In 1908 the peasants of the village Taraktash(now the village of Veseloye near Sudak), during earthworks, a treasure was found under an old oak tree, presumably from 2 thousand coins. Part of the treasure went hand in hand. Local historian Alexander Stephen found and bought several hundred coins. The hoard was hidden in the middle of the 5th century AD and consisted of coins from ancient Rome and the Bosporus kingdom.

In the same 1908 was found Eltigen treasure- by the ancient city Nymphaeum(near Kerch). This treasure, which consisted of coins of the 5th century AD, helped scientists shed light on the history of the Kerch Peninsula of that time.

In 1959 at the mountain Alchak(region of the Sudak valley) archaeologists have found gold Bosporan coins of the third century AD.

The Central Museum in Simferopol is kept Teshkliburun treasure- gold tubular triangular pendants, a gold cross with a garnet insert, earrings decorated with grain with inserts, pendants. All this was found by an expedition of Crimean archaeologists led by Alexander Herzen on Mangup. Once this treasure was hidden in the wall of the house.

In 1967, builders clearing a place for a foundation pit on the outskirts of the city of Simferopol found a treasure that consisted of 328 items, weighing almost 2.6 kg - silver and gold jewelry with inserts of pearls and precious stones, gold coins and stripes, silver vessels , jewelry made of semi-precious stones.
A total of 328 items with a total weight of about 2.6 kg.

In 1990 in the area Alushta in the ruins of a medieval dwelling that died in a fire, archaeologists stumbled upon a broken jar, in which there were 17 silver ingots with a total weight of 3.5 kg. Such ingots were kept by merchants, cutting the required amount during the calculations.

In 2002, while clearing an ancient tunnel outside the walls Chufut-Kale(Bakhchisarai region) speleologists found a pot with a pile of coins of the XIV-XV centuries. The treasure consisted of 30 gold and 4 thousand silver coins from different countries and weighed about 5 kg.

In 2003 in the region Kerch during the excavations of the ancient city Mirmakey found 99 gold coins of the 6th-5th centuries BC Obviously, these were the treasures of the temple: the treasure was found during the clearing of the masonry of the sanctuary. There were 53 types of images on the coins, and everywhere there was a fish - in all likelihood a symbol of the city.

In 2004, when dismantling a house in the center of Feodosia, builders found a tin, and in it were kerenki, banknotes of the Provisional Government - a total of 154 thousand rubles. The treasure was named "Dreyfus": the money was wrapped in documents, among which were telegrams signed by Louis Dreyfus, a well-known Swiss banker at the beginning of the last century.

In January 2007 in Old Crimea while repairing the stove, a local resident found a golden pendant wrapped in cloth. In the Middle Ages, sheep's wool soaked in incense was placed in such pendants and hung around the neck. They also used pendants during epidemics - to ward off the disease.

In May 2007 in Kerch near the wall Yeni-Kale fortress the teenagers found some coins. Treasure hunters dug into the wall and found a treasure of 77 silver Akche coins (Middle Ages).

In July 2007 on Mt. Tepe-Oba(area Feodosia) in the forest, summer residents found an earthen vessel full of silver coins. The weight of the treasure is 6 kg, this treasure turned out to be the largest in terms of the number of coins found in Ukraine. It consisted of more than 10,000 asprs minted in the 16th century, which are now processed and studied by specialists. At that time, it was a lot of money: a male slave in the market of medieval Kafa cost 800-900 aspros, a woman - 600 aspros.

The history of the search for valuables stored in the Crimean land continues to this day.
Many traditions and legends tell about the buried treasures, about the treasures of sunken ships, about the gold of the Scythians.
According to legend, somewhere lies a huge gold ingot, in the form of a horse made of gold, the location of which legends say in different ways: it could be the Bear Mountain near Gurzuf, or the dungeons of Armyansk, perhaps on Mount Kastel near Alushta.
Historians believe that such stories are nothing more than a beautiful legend.
The search will be resumed soon. treasures of the Crimean Khan, times of the XVIII century.
famous legend about the treasures of the Gireys, according to which, at the end of the 18th century, in the area of the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai, gold and jewelry of the last of the dynasties of the Crimean khans, Shagin Giray, were hidden. The legend is confirmed by the testimony of modern witnesses, whose ancestors allegedly helped to hide the treasure. A few years ago there was a rumor that the SBU was excavating the palace grounds.
According to preliminary data, these treasures consist of more than 200 kg of gold and other valuables.
At the bottom of the Donuzlav Bay in the western Crimea, they have been searching for Treasures of the Bakhchisaray Museum.
A mysterious ship whose task was to take out the most valuable exhibits during the Great Patriotic War - church property, paintings, objects from the palaces of Crimea. German troops destroyed the ship and it sank.
According to legend, in these places, a fabric embroidered with gold was thrown onto the seashore: a piece of precious church attire.
In 1941 ship "Lenin" headed from the city of Odessa, on board of which there were many refugees, mostly rich people who took their valuables with them. The hold of the ship was fully loaded either with copper or bronze.
The further fate of the ship is unclear - some say that it was blown up by a mine, others that a bomb hit it.
As a result, he sank at a depth of about 90 meters off the coast of Sevastopol. Approximately 4 thousand people went to the bottom.
In the early 90s, they say there was an Israeli citizen in Sevastopol who was interested in people who were ready to sink to the bottom of the Lenin ship. He assured that his father was on the sunken ship with a mysterious luggage, which was miraculously saved, and his suitcase sank. When asked what was in the suitcase, the Israeli winked mysteriously: they say, there will be enough contents for everyone, both for him personally, and for Sevastopol, and for those who will get the cargo from the bottom of the sea.

And of course, you need to remember the famous Treasures of the Black Prince.
A ship with such a romantic name sank in Balaklava Bay in November 1854, during a legendary storm. They say it was carrying 30 barrels of gold.
Attempts to find the ship and its valuables have been made since 1905, and the search continues to this day.

Perhaps very soon we will hear about new great discoveries of treasure hunters of our time, which will shed light on the unknown pages of history and thus enrich our culture.

I bring to your attention a selection of interesting legends about the treasures of the Crimea, which have not yet replenished museum expositions and private collections, they simply have not yet been found, although there are many different sources confirming that some legends are far from fiction ...

Treasures of Byzantium- there is a legend that during the siege of Mangup by the Turks in 1475, when the defenders of the Principality of Theodoro had already realized that they could not resist the onslaught of the enemy, Prince Alexander ordered to hide the treasury and all the valuables of the inhabitants in the cave city.

According to legend, there were a lot of treasures, since it was here that they were brought from all over Byzantium after the fall of Constantinople. The Ottoman vizier Ahmed Pasha allegedly knew about the treasures, but after the capture of the capital, Theodoro could not find them. Nothing was discovered by the archaeological expedition, which has been working on Mangup for many years.

Treasures of the Bakhchisaray Museum- off the western coast of the peninsula, in the Kachi region, a ship rests on the seabed, which in 1941 was supposed to evacuate the treasures of the Bakhchisaray Palace (carpets, historical clothes, household items, coin collections, and much more).

Even the act of the museum about the preparation for the evacuation of valuable exhibits has been preserved. However, as soon as the ship went to sea, it was sunk by German bombers. It is said that the ship could not go far and should be searched for at shallow depths not far from the coast. But these treasures have not been found.

Regimental treasury (Ak-Monai quarries)- according to legend, the regimental treasury is hidden in the Leninsky district, which the NKVD officers left when the Soviet troops retreated from the Crimea. Until now, the cache has not been found by treasure hunters.

It allegedly stores ammunition, money, jewelry and secret dossiers on spies and saboteurs. Local residents say that on a November night in 1941, a truck drove up to the entrance to the quarry and stopped at the railroad tracks, the soldiers unloaded some boxes from it, took it to the catacombs and left.

These rumors are confirmed by the fact that in the mid-1950s, in the village of Kamenskoye, located not far from the Ak-Monai quarries, a certain inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from Moscow appeared, which made inquiries about what local residents found in the quarries. But the cache has not yet been found.

Treasures of the Temple of the Virgin (Fiolent)- in the 50s of the last century, in the area of \u200b\u200bCape Fiolent, not far from Sevastopol, a Crimean rock climber accidentally discovered a cave late in the evening, into which a vertical well led. Having descended to the very bottom, he saw fragments of ceramics and many human remains.

Since the lantern was weak, he did not dare to go deep into the cave and returned to the same place in the morning of the next day. However, he did not manage to find a narrow hole in the cave.

It is possible that the skeletons belonged to people whom the Taurians sacrificed to the goddess Virgo. It was on Fiolent, according to experts, that the main sanctuary of the ancient inhabitants of the Crimea was located. It follows from this that the treasures of the Taurians may well be stored in the cave, since it was the temples at that time that served not only as sanctuaries, but also as a kind of banks, but with termless deposits.

Golden Horse (Grand Canyon)- there is another legend that a golden horse is hidden in one of the mountain gorges of Crimea - a huge ingot of pure gold, presumably the size of a real horse.

According to legend, the statue of a horse was installed in a pyramidal sanctuary, inside which a fire burned all the time. Apparently, the legend refers to the golden horse of Mithridates VI Eupator, who, after the death of the Bosporus king, somehow ended up in the hands of the Scythians and “migrated” from Kerch to the Crimean mountains.

There are rumors that when they decided to deliver the statue to the Scythian capital, the caravan was attacked. So that the enemies would not get it, the priests threw it into the gorge. According to legend, it was the largest gorge on the peninsula. Apparently, we are talking about the Grand Canyon.

Golden Chariot (Kerch)- as the legend says, the golden chariot, unlike the horse, remained in the bowels of the Kerch mountain Mithridates, named after the Bosporus king, who owned a priceless item.

After the discovery of a Scythian burial in the Kul-Oba burial mound, the belief in the real existence of the golden chariot became stronger. Gold plaques, the famous hryvnia made of an alloy of gold and silver, a gold hoop, an electric vessel and much more were found in the burial.

Before his death, Mithridates allegedly hid a golden copy of his horse and a golden chariot in the mountain. Later, another legend appeared about the golden horse of the Scythians, who, apparently, found the treasure of Mithridates, but the chariot disappeared.

Gold of Mamaia (Chatyr-Dag)- after the defeat in the Battle of Kulikovo, Khan Mamai was overthrown from the throne of the Golden Horde and fled south, presumably to the Crimea. With him, he took almost all the gold from the treasury of the Golden Horde in order to subsequently prepare a coup.

Starting from the 10th century, the French, British, Italians were looking for the grave of Mamai on the peninsula ... The attempts were not successful, but, according to Russian researchers, the treasure that Mamai took with him should be sought on Chatyr-Dag, in the little-studied caves of the mountain.

Museum exhibits of Europe (Tarkhankut)- in December 1847, the Russian 12-gun schooner Vestnik crashed on the rocks near Cape Tarkhankut, returning from a Mediterranean campaign.

Earlier, the ship visited one of the Greek ports and there were supposedly museum exhibits on board, which were supposed to be transferred to the Kerch Historical and Archaeological Museum. Since the ship crashed on the rocks, it sank somewhere near the shore. However, the Russian schooner has not yet been found.

Treasures of the Golden Mound (Kerch)— the ruins of the ancient mound Altyn-Oba can be seen from the road at the entrance to Kerch. In the 1820s, General Rosenberg, having learned about the treasures hidden in the mound, put a fair amount of gunpowder into the top and blew it up.

He never found gold, he only disfigured the mound, breaking the cyclopean lining. In 1832, Demyan Kareisha began archaeological excavations of the mound. However, he found nothing but 2 empty stone crypts.

However, there is no smoke without fire, for sure the name of the burial mound Zolotoy may indicate that it still keeps treasures from the time of the Bosporan kingdom.

Ancient rocks, quarries and ruins of Crimea keep their secrets and treasures hidden in them for thousands of years

From time to time, another wave of hobbies for treasure hunting sweeps across the land of Taurida. Not only young dreamers, but also quite mature and even gray-haired inhabitants of Crimea suddenly light up with the idea of finding a treasure - and for days on end with an absent look, attentively listening to the rustle in their headphones, wander with metal detectors and other handicraft equipment through the steppes and forests, through caves and rocks. Some are lucky - there really are a lot of unfound graves here. Some of them, in addition to historical, are also material values.

Crimea had to go through a lot of wars, invasions, changes of power. At the onset of troubled times, residents, leaving the peninsula in the hope of salvation, often hid valuables and money in hiding places - in basements, in the walls of houses, in the ground ... And today, here and there, people stumble upon decayed bundles with gold coins and other caches.

If those leaving their native places did not have time to safely hide the wealth or did not hope to return for it, they threw it into a river or a well. So, for example, ministers of temples acted during the persecution of the church - a lot of expensive church utensils were found in the Crimean rivers.

Until now, the Crimean land jealously guards tons of treasures, which are legendary.

Treasure of the Gireys: in Bakhchisarai or in Feodosia?

Bakhchisaray is a small city. Even smaller is the territory of the Khan's Palace, where, according to legend, the innumerable treasures of the last of the dynasty are hidden. Gireev- Khan Shagina. Fearing to die at the hands of the Turks, Shagin Giray hurried to leave the peninsula, having previously hidden his treasury and jewelry.

However, this is just a legend. Historians doubt its veracity. Indeed, why hide the good in Bakhchisarai, if the khan at that time was going to move to Kafa (Feodosia) and set up his capital there? In the Cafe at that time, gold and silver coins were already minted with might and main, the port was being completed and strengthened, factories were operating - powder and foundry. It is more logical to assume that Giray hid the treasures there. More accurate information is not yet available, although from time to time there are descendants of "eyewitnesses" and indicate all new places of the alleged place of the treasure.

The golden horse of Mithridates: in Kerch, Armyansk or inside Ayu-Dag?

According to legend, when the favorite stallion of the king died Mithridates, the saddened king ordered the master to create a golden copy of the horse in full growth. The precious statue, according to the stories, is safely hidden in the thickness of Mount Mithridates, which is located in the center of Kerch. However, historians are skeptical about these rumors, especially since the location of the treasure is often “transferred”: either to Mount Kastel, then to Armyansk, or to Ayu-Dag. Experts also doubt the very existence of the golden statue, since there is no documentary evidence of this fact.

Treasure of the robber Alim in Kiziltash

Crimean " Robin Hood", robber Alim, robbed the rich and helped the poor in the first half of the 19th century. There are many legends on the peninsula about the noble robber and about the treasures that he hid in hard-to-reach caves. More often than others, the name Kiziltash is repeated - this is a tract between Sudak and Koktebel, in which, as you know, Alim hid from the authorities - he had two permanent shelters, the Rogue and the Holy caves. It is quite possible that somewhere in this tract the riches obtained by Alim are really waiting in the wings.

30 barrels of gold at the bottom of the Balaklava Bay

And this is no longer a beautiful legend, but a historical fact: an English ship called the Black Prince, which carried 30 barrels of gold, actually sank in Balaklava Bay during the Crimean War, in 1854. The gold was intended to pay salaries to the soldiers and officers of the English army. But a terrible storm suddenly rose in the bay, and the ship sank, crashing against the rocks.

Treasure seekers, having learned about this, immediately set to work. But to this day, the legendary ship and its cargo have not been found. Modern divers do not stop trying to find treasures, but either the depth of the Balaklava Bay is too great, or there is not enough patience, or there is simply no notorious gold. True, the interest of treasure hunters is fueled by golden English coins, which are found there from time to time. Sometimes they say that gold was found after all - and secretly taken to Moscow.

Gold of the NKVD in the Leninsky district

As the legend says, during the Great Patriotic War, having been forced to retreat and leaving the Crimea to the Nazis, the NKVD officers hid the regimental treasury in the territory of the Leninsky district. Until recently, “witnesses”, residents of the village of Kamenka, were still alive, telling how, on a dark November night in 1941, a truck drove up to the Ak-Monai quarries, from which the soldiers unloaded heavy boxes and left them in the depths of the quarries. Rumors leaked out from somewhere that in addition to ammunition, the boxes contained dossiers on saboteurs and spies, as well as money and jewelry.

Maybe it's just a beautiful legend. But why, then, in the 50s, representatives of the capital's Ministry of Internal Affairs suddenly descended on Kamenka and persistently asked local residents if they had found anything in the abandoned labyrinths of quarries? Of course, this visit only fueled the interest of treasure hunters. But - alas - nothing is known about the discovery of the NKVD jewelry.

Treasures of the ship "Lenin" off the coast of Sevastopol

At Cape Sarych in 1941, the ship " Lenin”, which took out refugees from the besieged Odessa. This was the last chance for salvation, and instead of the planned 500 passengers, according to unconfirmed reports, ten times more people accumulated there. Among the passengers there were many far from poor representatives of the local elite who exported gold and jewelry. And the workers of the Odessa NKVD and the regional party committee, artists and writers still had a lot of good ... The hold of the ship was packed, presumably, with bronze or copper ingots. But no one managed to escape - the ship hit a mine and quickly sank.

They say that in the 90s, a certain Israeli citizen showed up in Sevastopol, who tried to hire divers to dive and search for Lenin. The visitor explained that his father was sailing on the ship with a suitcase, the contents of which, if found, would be enough for the city, divers, and heirs. Dived, searched. And they keep looking. Some die... The depth in the bay is 96 meters, and divers sometimes use chemical mixtures instead of oxygen. But there is no official information about the finds yet.

Of course, these treasures - real or fictional - do not exhaust the undiscovered treasures of the Crimea. These are just the most famous legends. The “black diggers” who quietly dig the Crimean land in winter and summer can tell more about it. They can. If they want.

Promising places...

Traveling to Crimea to rest search engines, differ from ordinary tourists in that they ask themselves the question - where exactly can you dig here, and how to find promising places to look at the same time, without wandering inadvertently on an archaeological site?

One of the most attractive areas is the sea coast from the border of the Opuk reserve to Cape Takyl.

These places are rather deserted, sparsely populated and, importantly, not particularly interesting for ordinary tourists. There are no picturesque mountains or lush vegetation here.

This is 100% Cimmeria!

Low hills scorched by the sun, and the endless expanse of the sea! In the times of the USSR, several military units were located on this stretch of the coast, and therefore the passage along the seashore was problematic in many places. Now the military is not there (at least for now), and the path along the edge of the sea is free everywhere. The only active military unit in this area is the missile range at Cape Opuk itself.

This section of the coast is interesting, first of all, because in ancient times there were several small cities, mostly Greek, along its length.

But not once on the indicated segment of the Crimean coast has a long, systematic archaeological survey and excavation been carried out. Simply put, the coast has been very little explored, despite the fact that there is no doubt that there is something to look for there ...

In addition, in the light of current legislation, it seems that search engines are not forbidden to dig on the beaches. And here is exactly the case when the search will be mainly carried out near the sea itself, i.e. on the beach.

The fact is that in ancient times, the edge of the sea was much further than it is now. That is why very often in these places the remains of ancient settlements are found under water.

There is a feeling that they are, as it were, hooked on the edge of the land. This way, you can cop on the seashore without breaking the law, and at the same time dig the old way!

These places will certainly appeal to those who do not really like prying eyes. There is almost never anyone here. Rare vacationers "savages" with tents, not a hindrance to the cop. Yes, and local diggers on this coast can be found very rarely, because. they prefer to dig in “their own”, that is, places they are familiar with. In general, the finds here are very interesting: coins, arrowheads, spears, parts of edged weapons…

Despite the desert and even some natural wildness of this area, there is something attractive in it. Maybe time is running out? After all, there were towns, life was in full swing, and now ...

By the way, some people consider these places to be places of power!
But what is really a lot here is silence, peace, air and sea!

Crimea... An ancient mysterious land. Do not count the secrets that she keeps in herself. Do not count the peoples whose home was this peninsula.

Time fled, cities and countries, tribes and states changed. Leaving the hospitable Black Sea land, people hoped to return. They hoped - and hid the most valuable. They left hiding places and graves, houses and castles on the peninsula.

Crimea is one of the places where treasures are most often found. Not a year passes without the news of a found handful of ancient coins, shards of an old pot with chains, or some other traces of antiquity flying by. Many small finds are probably unknown.

There were also finds that thundered all over the world. It is curious that they were all found by chance.

At the end of the 19th century, a German colonist was repairing a mill dam in what was then the settlement of Neisac. In the depths of the dam, he found an earthenware jar with silver coins and gold ornaments. The age of the find was almost half a thousand years.

In 1908, two whole treasures were found. Under an old oak tree near the village of Taraktash, peasants found a pot with gold coins from the 5th century. In the same year, coins of the same age were found near the village of Eltigen, not far from Kerch.

The year 1959 brought gold coins of the Bosporus kingdom to archaeologists. According to experts, the coins were minted as early as the 3rd century. This wealth was found near Mount Alchak near the Sudak valley.

Less than ten years later, construction began on the outskirts of Simferopol. When digging pits for the future building, one of the largest treasures in the history of Crimea was found: about 2.5 kilograms of gold, silver and stones - jewelry, coins, stripes.

In 1990, a treasure was found near Alushta, probably buried by some merchant. It was 3.5 kilograms of silver bullion.

The XXI century was marked by a number of wonderful finds. A five-kilogram hoard of gold and silver coins of the 14th-15th centuries in the Bakhchisarai region, the Mirmek treasure - a bronze jug with electric coins-kizikins of the 6th-5th centuries BC, copper coins of two thousand years ago in Feodosia - this is not a complete list of treasures found.

No matter how many treasures have been found, even more mysteries are still waiting to be solved. The Crimean land and the water surrounding it keep a lot of treasures.

Somewhere near the Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai lies the treasure of the Gireys, hidden by the last Crimean Khan.

In the Crimea lies a golden horse - a huge ingot of pure gold. Legends differ regarding its location: Armyansk, Ayu-Dag, Mount Kastel ... Maybe it's just an ancient beautiful legend.

At the end of the 19th century, a ship carrying 30 barrels of gold sank in Balaklava Bay. The Black Prince has been searched for for more than 100 years, but, alas, without success.

Somewhere under water near the western Crimea, a ship is also waiting, which was supposed to evacuate valuables from museums before the arrival of the Nazis. German bombers sank the ship. The exact location of his crash remains unknown.

Large caches and small burials. Mysterious treasures and a handful of coins, jewelry and ingots set aside for a rainy day - a lot has accumulated in the Crimean land over several thousand years of its history. In the mountains, caves, ancient houses, ancient ruins - it is not known where the chest of gold is waiting for the lucky one.

Treasures of coins: secrets of Crimea

Many treasures of the Crimean peninsula, about which there are legends, have not yet been found. So, they say that Khan Shagin-Girey hid his treasures near the Bakhchisarai Palace, and at the bottom of the Black Sea near Sevastopol you can find the precious cargo of the Lenin motor ship. However, even those treasures of coins that have already been discovered are of considerable interest and attract many hunters for good luck to the Crimea.

The riches of the peninsula

The Crimean peninsula is the territory of many legends and legends, including those about numerous treasures. An interesting, eventful ancient history, frequent migrations, numerous wars - all these circumstances forced people to trust the most precious land, cellars of houses, mountain caves. Here are just a few of the coin hoards Coin hoards: amazing finds. discovered at different times in the Crimea:

The most valuable Crimean treasures

Crimea is an ancient land. It so happened that the peninsula has become a crossroads of many cultures. Here they find both gold coins from Asia Minor and treasures of the Golden Horde. Interestingly, many significant discoveries have been made recently.

Simferopol treasure

In 2009, members of the Artesian Archaeological Expedition discovered two treasures at once. The discovery was made on the territory of the ancient fortress Artesian. According to archaeologists, these were some kind of offerings to the underground gods, and not ordinary treasures. The inhabitants of Artesian believed that sacrificial treasures would contribute to the acceptance of their souls by the gods if they were killed by enemies and were not buried in accordance with the requirements of the funeral rite.

In addition to coins, the first hoard contained a bronze mirror, gold rings with garnet and agate inserts, and a round brooch depicting the goddess Aphrodite. In the second, in addition to coins, there were small glass vessels with incense, bracelets and necklaces. On one of the vessels one could distinguish two faces located on both sides of it. One of them was sad, the other cheerful. All finds were transferred to the Kerch Historical and Archaeological Museum.

5 most mysterious treasures not found

Despite the many legends about hidden treasures in the Crimea, none of them led to large treasures. They were always found by chance.

Treasure Girey

There is a legend that at the end of the 18th century, somewhere near the Khan's Palace, in Bakhchisarai, the last of the dynasty of Crimean khans, Shagin Giray, hid gold and jewelry. The legend of the treasure was supported by the testimony of modern eyewitnesses, whose ancestors allegedly helped to hide the treasures. A few years ago, there was even a rumor that the security service of Ukraine was excavating on the territory of the palace looking for the same gold.

Golden Cradle or Golden Horse

This is a huge ingot of precious metal, sheltered by the Crimeans from enemies in time immemorial. Historians consider such stories to be just a beautiful legend, especially since the location of the treasure wanders: it is advised to look for it on Mount Ayu-Dag. in underground passages near Armyansk, on Mount Kastel near Alushta.

Treasures of the Black Prince

A ship with such a romantic name sank in Balaklava Bay on November 9, 1854. According to rumors, 30 barrels of gold were carried on it. Attempts to find the treasures of the Black Prince have been made since 1905, and they do not stop to this day.

Treasures of the Bakhchisaray Museum

At the bottom of the Donuzlav Bay, for decades, they have been looking for a mysterious ship that was supposed to take out valuable exhibits - paintings, church utensils, things from the Crimean palaces - during the Great Patriotic War. The Germans bombed the ship and it sank. According to the legend, a cloth embroidered with gold was thrown onto the seashore: a piece of a precious church vestment.

Cargo of the ship Lenin

This ship sank off the coast of Sevastopol at a depth of 90 meters. In 1941, the ship sailed from Odessa, taking away refugees. Among them there were quite a lot of non-poor people who took valuables with them. And the hold of the ship was loaded with copper or bronze. His further fate is vague. Either Lenin was blown up by a mine, or a bomb hit him. About 4 thousand people went to the bottom along with the ship. In the early 90s, an Israeli citizen walked around Sevastopol, wondering how to find people ready to go down to Lenin. The visitor assured that his father was sailing on the sunken ship with some mysterious suitcase. Dad was miraculously saved, and the suitcase sank. When asked what was there, the man winked mysteriously: enough for everyone, for him, for the city, and for those who dive to Lenin.
