Where you can have a great rest, having received a free Sinai stamp as a pass to the resort area.

Sharm El Sheikh city in Egypt

For many years, the Arab Republic of Egypt has been one of the most promising vacation spots for Russians. And the reason is not so much that life in Egypt is inexpensive even for students. We are all raised on the legends of this country. Books, films, animation have taught us to love an amazing country where gods with animal heads once ruled. Egypt is magnificent landscapes, outlandish architecture and pleasant service at affordable prices. Everyone strives to visit the country at least once, to bring their offspring and soul mate to it.

Great Egyptian Pyramids of Giza

In 2020, nothing has changed for Russians in the rules for entering the territory of the Arab Republic. And this means that those who decide to relax in the famous Sharm, that is, on the territory of Sharm el-Sheikh, do not need a visa at all. As a result, there is no need to fill out an application form and pay a visa fee, which today is $25. The only pass to the cherished territories of the fantastically beautiful resort will be the Sinai stamp.

Sinai stamp in the passport

Features of the Sinai visa in 2020

The Sinai stamp is placed after filling. This short document is written in two languages: English and Arabic. Knowledge of basic English will make it possible to fill out the card on your own, since the questions in it are very simple.

External view of the Migration Card to Egypt

Upon arrival in Egypt, you need to have a passport with you. Be careful, as the document is required: it must be valid for another six months after your trip ends. If children come with you to rest in Sharm El Sheikh, they must either have separate passports, or your offspring must be entered in your passport. Photographs of children certified with stamps should be placed next to the written records.

If children have their own international passport, a separate migration card must be filled out for them. A simple rule applies: a separate migration card is attached to each passport.

How to fill out a migration card

You can get a migration form at the counter at the airport, or you can download it on the Internet and fill it out at home.

This method will be most acceptable for those who are not particularly strong in English. The following information is included in the document:

  • the flight number that took you to the Egyptian airport;
  • the name of the city where you boarded the plane;
  • surname;
  • date of birth (written as usual with us, that is, starting from the number);
  • nationality;
  • series and number of the passport;
  • the name of the hotel where you booked the room;
  • in the column requesting the purpose of your trip, you need to check the box next to the word "tourism";
  • children (you must specify the last name, first name and date of birth).

If you need a free Sinai visa, the card must say "Sinai only". Those who have already made their way to Sharm el-Sheikh and back are advised to have a pen ready. It happens when the representatives of the control insist that the tourist must obtain a regular visa, which must be paid for. You have the right to defend your rights and do as you see fit.

If you enter a zone where you do not need to pay through Taboo, the Sinai stamp in 2020 is set by default in the documents of Russians. Although the cost is low, many choose Sharm el-Sheikh for their holidays.

A little excursion into a big story

Many people wonder why Egypt behaves so kindly towards guests who want to stay in Sharm el-Sheikh, for what reasons tourists of these territories do not need to buy an entry permit. After all, it is quite obvious that such a formulation of the issue is completely unprofitable for the Arab Republic.

Meanwhile, the matter is not at all in the courtesy of the Egyptians, but in a history that has millennial roots. It's all about the relationship between Egypt and neighboring Israel and the centuries-old dispute over sacred lands for the Israelis. Not so long ago, Israel owned the territories adjacent to Sharm el-Sheikh.

Due to the current international situation, it was necessary to return the once captured peninsula to Egypt, however, Egypt also had to make concessions. One of them is the Sinai stamp, which allows visitors to the sacred territories not to pay the cost of a visa fee.

Traveling to Egypt continues to be popular with our compatriots, gaining momentum from year to year. Resorts of the Mediterranean and Red Seas attract vacationers from all over the world. The question of abolishing the visa regime between Russia and Egypt has been raised more than once, but so far this has remained in theory. Therefore, an entry permit is still required. It is issued upon arrival at the local airport. Its cost at the entrance to Egypt for Russians from May 1, 2015 is 25 dollars. But if a tourist plans to relax in Sharm El Sheikh, there is an opportunity not to pay this fee. This happens if a Sinai free visa is issued.

Understanding whether it is worth issuing such a permit must be compared with the goals of your trip. Sinai visa in 2019 has a number of restrictions and features:

  1. The document is issued for up to fifteen days.
  2. Movement around the country is limited, it is allowed to visit attractions only within the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
  3. For divers, it does not allow access to the main place for diving - the sunken ship Tiselgorm.
  4. Departure to cities that tourists usually seek, such as Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada, is also impossible.

If a traveler entering the state does not fit any of these items, you will have to pay for an ordinary permit. The Egyptian border services are very strict, and it will not be possible to agree with them on any indulgence. The list of places that can be visited under this document includes such settlements as the resort town of Taba, the city for divers and surfers of Dahab and the coastal resort of Nuweibu.

You can also go to the monastery of St. Catherine, located at the foot of Mount Sinai, better known as Mount Moses. It is included in the list of World Heritage Sites. Sinai visa in Sharm El Sheikh 2019 now allows you to make an excursion to the beautiful Ras Mohammed Nature Reserve. Previously, this was prohibited.

The Sinai Peninsula on the map borders on Israel, so you can visit the ancient city of Bethlehem. The appearance of this document is connected precisely with Israel, with which the Egyptian authorities concluded a settlement agreement in 1978. Thus, the war of these two states was over, and the peace treaty signed in the city of Camp David returned the Sinai Peninsula to the country and touched the tourist destination. The Sinai visa was created for free movement first between the inhabitants of these countries, and later other tourists who felt the infringement of their rights compared to the Israelis.

If the fifteen-day period has already expired, and the tourist has not yet left the country, he will face the payment of penalties in the amount of $30. This is in the event that a violation of the deadline was discovered at the airport before departure. If the violator is stopped on the territory of the state, then the case will not end with one fine. He faces imprisonment for three days and subsequent deportation with all the ensuing consequences and costs. It will no longer be possible to fly on a charter, you will have to leave on a specialized flight. In the future, getting here will be difficult for a long period of time.

Registration procedure

Before flying to this state on vacation, travelers will learn in advance how to fill out a visa in Egypt so that there is no confusion and disagreement on the spot. A free permit is issued in the same way as a paid one - a migration card is taken from your tour operator. A 2019 sample is provided at the airport. It is filled in with English letters, and its filling pattern can also be viewed in advance on the Internet.

There is not much information to enter, so this process is usually not difficult. It is necessary to enter: last name, first name, date of birth, nationality, and address - this will be the name of the hotel where the accommodation is booked. On the back of the card, you must write the phrase "Sinay only", which will make it clear to customs officers that a free permit is being issued. This is followed by a migration card to Egypt, a sample of which can also be provided by a travel agency, along with a passport are transferred to border guards, in contrast to paid entry - there documents are transferred to the customs window. Border guards must say the same phrase as on the back of the card: "Sinay only, please." After the verification is carried out, a Sinai stamp is affixed to the citizen's foreign passport.

In general, there should not be any problems with registration. This applies to tourists of any nationality and race. Some travelers write reviews that Egyptian officials are preventing this document from being obtained.

Indeed, until recently, some border guards were looking for any excuse not to stamp. The fact is that for them it is a loss of money that tourism brings to the treasury.

Of course, $25 is an insignificant fee, but if a company of four or more people comes to rest, the savings of a hundred dollars already become significant. At present, the situation at the customs has been settled, the border guards are not putting up any obstacles.

If, nevertheless, there is any hitch or an unpleasant situation at the airport, it is necessary to challenge your rights. In this case, it is necessary to refer to the current law, which was issued after the conclusion of the settlement agreement. You can also request to invite a higher manager to resolve the dispute.

Both for citizens of Russia and for Ukrainians, a Sinai permit is issued and issued absolutely free of charge.

Of course, obtaining such a right to enter is pointless if the traveler, having arrived in Sharm El Sheikh, wished to relax in Cairo or Hurghada - in 2019 the same restrictions apply as in previous years. In this case, you can apply for an ordinary visa at any time during your stay on the Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt is one of the most popular countries among Belarusians for a beach holiday. Indeed, you can enjoy the sea and the sun there almost all year round, there are enough interesting cities and places where you can go on excursions. In addition, there is an opportunity to visit neighboring Israel and Jordan by ticking not one, but three countries at once on the travel map. And the cost of vouchers is much lower than in many other areas.

Another point that makes the country of Arab dreams attractive in the tourist market of Belarus is the absence of the need to apply for a visa in advance. You can get it right at the airport upon arrival. However, do not forget that this only applies to tourist visas. All others must be opened in advance.

Tourist visa documents

In order to apply for a tourist visa to Egypt, Belarusians do not need any additional documents. A valid passport, a completed migration card, a return air ticket and a hotel reservation are sufficient.

The latter is rarely asked to be confirmed by border guards, so tourists who decide to decide on their place of residence right in Egypt often write information “at random”, finding information on the Internet about any resort hotel they are heading to.

One of the most common questions that Belarusian tourists have is filling out a migration card. All columns are indicated in English and Arabic, but it is not difficult to guess their meaning.

Migration cards are issued, as a rule, on board the aircraft. Here, flight attendants help fill them out, politely answering questions that Belarusians have. If there are technical problems and the airline does not have forms, do not worry. The questionnaire can always be taken at the airport at the information desk, where there are samples of filling out. But it is better to take care of the presence of a pen in advance, even at home.

As for filling, the main rule is to write legibly and in Latin letters. You need to fill in all fields. Border guards often do not read the meaning of what is written, and sometimes they are completely limited to a cursory glance, but empty cells are always striking.

Registration process

Visa processing at Hurghada airport is carried out very quickly, all formalities are minimized. The procedure consists of three stages.

Tourists fill out a migration card (on the plane or at the airport, upon arrival).

When passing through passport control, a foreign passport together with a completed migration card is presented to the employee.

After checking the documents, the customs officer pastes a visa into the passport and puts an arrival stamp on top of it.

You should not expect any tricks - the Egyptians treat Belarusian tourists loyally and never refuse entry.

Price

Speaking about the cost of a visa, it is worth remembering again that they are of two types - a Sinai stamp and a full-fledged Egyptian tourist visa. The first one is completely free, the second one is $25. Children who do not have their own passport can count on free entry. If an underage tourist is traveling on their own passport, a $25 consular fee must be paid.

Validity

The validity of a Sinai stamp is 15 days, a tourist visa obtained outside the Sinai Peninsula is 30 days. Violation of the terms of stay in the country threatens with serious fines and even a further ban on entry into Egypt.

Possible problems

The first problem faced by Belarusians arriving in Egypt is filling out a migration card. The difficulty is not so much in the filling itself, but in understanding what is required of you, because everything is written in English and Arabic. It is best to do everything on board the aircraft - here you can count on the help of a flight attendant. But even if you had to fill out a form at the airport and there is nowhere to wait for help, do not despair. Try to contact Russian-speaking tourists or representatives of travel companies. As a last resort - write the information as you see fit. The main thing is clearly and in Latin letters. Customs officers rarely read the questionnaires, most often they pay attention solely to the very fact of filling out.

Egypt is an Arab country in which many seek to cash in on tourists. Such is the feature. You can face this already at the airport, when they will demand $ 25 from you for a Sinai stamp, as for a full-fledged visa. This is completely illegal and you should not give extra money for fear of threats and possible consequences. Refusal to pay nothing threatens you! Although many, in order to avoid conflict and not spoil their vacation, are ready to fork out. That is exactly what the rogue customs officers are counting on.

Perhaps these are the only problems that Belarusians may face when obtaining an Egyptian visa, and they, apparently, are not so significant and significant. If you are at least a little familiar with the English language, solving them will not be difficult at all.

Visa for a child

Entry into Egypt for children is even more simplified than for adults. For small tourists, you do not need to fill out a separate migration card, it is enough that they will be entered into the parent one. However, it is recommended that you bring the following documents with you:

birth certificate;

permission to leave from the parents (one or two, respectively) if the child is traveling with one of them or accompanied by third parties.

At customs, most likely, they will not be required to present them, however, in the event of disputes and the absence of documents confirming the legal departure of the child abroad, troubles may arise.

A visa for a child, regardless of whether you are planning a vacation in the Sinai Peninsula or beyond, is issued free of charge. As in the case of the Sinai stamp, cunning border guards may require you to pay $ 25 for it, but this requirement is absolutely illegal and can be ignored by a tourist.

Sinai visa, in fact, is quite easy to obtain: as a rule, its cost is included in the cost of the purchased tour, and it is obtained already upon arrival at the place of rest. To obtain this visa in Sharm el-Sheikh, or in another city in the vastness of the Sinai Peninsula, there is no need to draw up any documents.

However, if you are not going to Egypt on vacation, and you need a Sinai stamp for another purpose - a business trip, study, or departure for any official event, you will need to apply for an Egyptian visa yourself by submitting documents to visa center, or to the Egyptian embassy.

In any case, no matter how you apply for a visa, it will cost you about $25. This applies both to cases of registration upon arrival, and if you issue it through the embassy. The consular fee is the same, fixed amount, and changes quite rarely.

As you can see above, there are several types of visas to Egypt. If you are going to the territory of the Sinai Peninsula to rest, you will be subject to certain requirements, and if you are going to work in Cairo, they will be completely different. To understand this, you need to understand what, in general, there are visas to Egypt.

What can be a visa?

Depending on the purpose of your trip, you will need to obtain a specific visa. There are seven different types of visa in total, namely:

  • Tourist visa. This is the most common type of visa. Every year, millions of tourists from Russia go on vacation to Sharm el-Sheikh, and receive a corresponding mark in their passports. It is set already upon arrival: if you are going on vacation on a package tour, there will be no difficulties with this;
  • professional visa. It is issued for diplomatic workers, politicians, journalists. Also, this visa is received by crew members of ships and aircraft. Such permits for entry into the republic are issued only by applying to the Embassy of the country in Moscow;
  • Departure for work. A visa to work in Egypt can only be issued at the Embassy of Egypt, if you have an invitation to work from an organization located in the Arab Republic. The cost of a work visa, issued for a period of up to one year, reaches hundreds of dollars;
  • Business visa. Such a visa is issued to investors, property owners and shareholders of large Egyptian companies. As a rule, it can be valid for up to one year;
  • Student visa. This type of visa can be obtained by full-time students enrolled in one of the public universities in Egypt. To confirm their right to such a visa, Russian citizens must provide certificates of enrollment and information about education already received;
  • Sinai visa. Such a visa is a specific permission to stay in the territory of a separate part of Egypt. Only tourists can get a Sinai stamp, and it costs, as a rule, free of charge. Such a visa cannot be extended, its validity period is one month.

There are some other types of visas, such as a residence visa (for spouses of Egyptian citizens and owners of real estate in the country), or fiancé visas, but these are not of particular interest to us at the moment. Considering that the majority of Russians come to Egypt precisely for the purpose of relaxing, and it is to the Sinai Peninsula, to Sharm el-Sheikh, it is worth paying special attention to a tourist visa.

Holidays in Sinai: a visa to the peninsula

Most often, Russians go on vacation to Sharm el-Sheikh, and to other resorts located precisely within Sinai and the surrounding peninsula. These places are always full of tourists coming not only from Russia but also from other parts of the world. Sharm El Sheikh is one of the most popular holiday destinations not only in Egypt, but throughout the Middle East.

As mentioned above, tourists apply for a visa to Egypt upon arrival, already at the airport. A visa issued in the Egyptian capital, or elsewhere, will cost you twenty-five dollars. At the same time, tourists traveling to rest in Sharm el-Sheikh, or to another resort in the Sinai Peninsula, can obtain a separate Sinai visa.

What distinguishes such a visa, first of all, is not the period of its validity, but the territory to which this action applies. You can get a Sinai stamp for free, but it will only be valid within the Sinai Peninsula. For those who came exclusively to Sharm el-Sheikh, just to sunbathe on the beaches and have a good rest, this opportunity to save money is more than relevant.

True, there are certain difficulties here. A visa obtained at the airport, for which the consular fee has been paid, not only gives you the opportunity to move freely throughout the territory of the republic, but can also be extended, if necessary. Sinai visa cannot be extended - it expires exactly one month after receipt.

If you are traveling exclusively on vacation, on a package tour - for a week or two, and your plans do not include any excursions and a change in the place of rest, the Sinai visa is perfect for you. In the event that you want to stay in Egypt longer, in Sharm el-Sheikh itself, or in another part of the republic, it is better to take care of an Egyptian visa: you will spend a little more money, but save yourself from all sorts of problems related to the legality of your stay in the country.

How to get a tourist visa in 2019?

All tourists traveling to Egypt on vacation are eligible for a tourist visa. However, there are several features here. So, for example, tourists who travel on their own, without a ticket and a tourist voucher, should take care to collect all the documents confirming their status as a tourist: this is a hotel reservation, round-trip tickets, and other information, without which you may not even be given a Sinai visa in Sharm el-Sheikh.

The situation is much simpler if you are going on vacation on a package tour. If you have a package, your tour operator provides you with everything you need: hotel reservations, inns, a travel voucher and, of course, the right to a visa on arrival. As a rule, the cost of vouchers already includes the cost of a visa, and you will not even need to pay, upon arrival in the Arab Republic, any additional fees.

If you are traveling on your own, you will need to contact the consular department of the Egyptian Embassy, or one of the visa centers of this country. After submitting all the necessary documents and paying the consular fee of twenty-five dollars, you will need to wait five to seven business days and collect your passport with your visa from the embassy. If you need a Sinai visa, it is better to consider purchasing a tour package to Sharm el-Sheikh. It is very difficult, almost impossible, to get a visa for free on your own, without a ticket.

Other features of staying in Sharm El Sheikh

Both in the case of applying for a visa at the Egyptian Embassy in Moscow, and in case of obtaining it upon arrival, you must have a valid foreign passport with you. It must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival from the place of rest. For those who receive a Sinai visa in one of the resort cities of the peninsula, such as Sharm el-Sheikh, this period can be reduced to two months. Of course, the passport must have free pages in order to place a visa there.

For each tourist from Russia who comes to rest in Sharm el-Sheikh, regardless of his age, an individual visa must be issued. However, if your children do not yet have their own passports, they can get a visa together with one of the parents in whose passport they are entered. If you are applying for a visa for yourself and for a child, the visa stamp must contain a corresponding mark. For children over six years old, a photo in the passport of one of the parents is required. From the age of fourteen, children go to Sharm el-Sheikh on their own passport.

If necessary, the visa can be extended for one month, upon written request of tourists to the migration center located in every major Egyptian city. If we are talking about a Sinai visa to Sharm el-Sheikh, such a visa cannot be extended, and you need to return home within the specified time. For tourists of retirement age, there is no need to extend the visa - they can freely stay in Egypt and Sharm el-Sheikh for as long as necessary.
