Today it is Cetinje, and not Podgorica, that has the status of the capital of Montenegro. For several centuries, ecclesiastical and secular power was concentrated in this city in the hands of metropolitans. But the rulers, princes and kings are already in the past; all that remains from them are interesting palaces and a monastery in Cetinje.

The architectural appearance of the city is very unusual and bright; take a walk along the pedestrian st. Njegosha And Palace Square. Here you will be greeted by the blacksmith Bogdan, who makes bells and horseshoes to rock and roll. It flows into the Platje gorge, which Montenegrins previously called “between the nests of eagles.” Only half a century ago it was possible to build a road in this canyon, connecting Podgorica with the north of the country.

9. Mamula Fortress and Lustica Peninsula

I admit that for the first time I went to Montenegro mainly to see the Bay of Kotor. A beach holiday was also in my plans, but if it weren’t for the Bay of Kotor, I would undoubtedly have chosen another place to relax.
If you conduct a survey among those tourists who have visited Montenegro, most of them will call the Bay of Kotor the most beautiful place in this country. The southernmost fjord in Europe truly amazes with its beauty, especially when you look at it from the shores of the cities of Kotor or Perast. We also recommend taking a boat ride, as the boat also offers beautiful views of the mighty mountains surrounding the bay. But still, you will get the best view of the Bay of Kotor from the observation deck near the top of the mountain located south of the bay. A visit to this observation deck is included in the program of some excursions.
We advise you to spend an evening in the city of Kotor if possible. At night, the Bay of Kotor looks simply magical, as the towns and villages on its coast create a necklace of lights around the bay.

Durmitor National Park

Although the drive from any seaside resort to this park is time consuming, it is worth it. Durmitor National Park amazes with the abundance of landscapes. The mountain peaks and lakes with crystal clear and cool water are especially beautiful here.
Any normal travel agency in Montenegro sells excursions to Durmitor National Park, but in order to fully enjoy this place, it is advisable to stay here for several days. Independent travelers usually stay in small guest houses, which are occasionally found in and around this national park.

Tara River Canyon

The most beautiful places in Montenegro simply cannot fail to include the second deepest canyon in the world. The Tara River Canyon amazes not only with its depth (up to 1300 meters), but with its unusually beautiful view.
If you have the opportunity, we advise you to take a walk along this canyon. You can also go rafting, but tourists are usually brought to far from the most beautiful section of the canyon.
One of the best places to photograph the Tara River Canyon is the famous Djurdjevic Bridge.

Skadar Lake

This lake is one of the most famous natural attractions in Europe. We talked in detail about Lake Skadar, as well as about all the other most beautiful places in Montenegro, in hotel articles on our website. I can only add that a visit to this lake should be mandatory if you come to Montenegro not only for a beach holiday.
