Amazing Majorca tourist review of Mallorca. Holidays in Mallorca Churches and temples. Which ones are worth visiting?

Most recently I was in Spain and in particular Mallorca (May 2016) and would like to talk about my trip. I’ll write impressions and advice about Barcelona in another section, but now about Mallorca. We flew on a Rainair flight from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca. We chose Magaluf as our holiday destination. From Palma airport it is sooo easy to get to the resort by public bus. From the airport there is bus number 1 to the center of Palma, a one-way ticket costs 5 euros. Then from the center you will take buses 104,105 or 106 to Magaluf or Palmanova. (one way 3.40-3.60, depending on the bus). For our holiday we chose the BH Mallorca hotel. 4* hotel, 10 minutes from the sea, a bunch of buildings, 4 swimming pools, a jacuzzi, water slides and very tasty food. One caveat - the hotel is only for adults without children and is aimed exclusively at young people. The hotel operates on different food systems, as well as on an all-inclusive system (in the hotel itself, all inclusive ends at 21:00 and then operates at the sister hotel, and then from 00:00 until 04:00 you can treat yourself for free drinks at the BSM nightclub across the street (by the way, the club is one of the 5 best in the world). At night it is a little noisy, a lot of partygoers return to their rooms)) but if you are one of them or you are a heavy sleeper, it will not bother you)) cleaning ladies and the bartenders are lovely, but the reception staff are not so much, fortunately you don’t have to communicate with them much. The hotel offers a different cuisine every day (Italy, Spain, India, Morocco, etc., there was even Olivier)) For the most part, the hotel works with Europeans, so we didn’t see any Russians there. In general, there are few Russians in Magaluf, but in Palmanova there are plenty, we walked there and met many, there were often Russian signs in restaurants and you can find Russian menus at restaurants))
We spent one day of our vacation week on a trip to Palma. But honestly, I’ll tell you there’s not much to see there. The only attractions are the Cathedral (you can see it on the way from the airport), which was built by Antonio Gandhi, famous for his handwriting in Barcelona, and Bellver Castle, which is located on the mountain. We went to it on a hop on hop off tourist bus. The ticket costs 17 euros and it’s not worth it in my opinion. It’s better to drive to the castle yourself and just take a walk. For me, the best attraction of Palma is the luxurious cruise ships and yachts that can be seen in the port. The spectacle is super)) oh yes, with the help of the hop on hop off booklet you can get free pearl carnations (you can find the store address in the booklet). If you are thinking about a gift, then the best would be Mallorcan pearls, they are very famous and there are a lot of shops. We spent another day on an excursion. It's called island. During the excursion you will travel to the north and northwest of the island in several vehicles. First, you are taken north by bus along the serpentine mountain serpentine of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains (advise that you sit on the right side, there is a better view). Very exciting, especially on turns)) scary-beautiful)) The bus will take you to La Calobra bay, from where you will sail on a ship to Port de Soller (advice - sit on the left, this is the side the ship sails along the coast and go as soon as you see the desired ship on the pier if you want to take a seat on the upper deck, we didn’t have time). From the port to the city center of Soller you are taken by a historical tram, which then connects with a tourist train, which in turn takes you back through tunnels and bridges back through the mountains past orange and lemon plantations)) very beautiful. The same bus will meet you near the train and take you back to where you picked it up. We left at 8:45 and were at the hotel at 18:00. At all points of the tour you are given enough time for photos and a snack; there are plenty of cafes and restaurants everywhere, but they are quite expensive. Therefore, we took a pack of bread and jamon with us and chewed sandwiches at rest stops)) it turned out to be very economical)) Regarding the cost of the excursion itself - 60 euros. Yes, it is quite expensive, but it is worth it, you will remember the beautiful views and changing landscape for a long time.
To summarize - there is nothing to see in Palma except the castle, the cathedral and the wonderful boats on the pier. Magaluf is a vacation for young people and those who like to party (or those who are not bothered by noise and drunk people). Palmanova - there are many Russians, vacationers with children and the elderly. Relaxing holiday, lying on the beach and quietly walking along the shore. The sun is very active, buy protection (we had 30 and still got burned) food in restaurants is quite expensive, so all inclusive is cheaper. Sangria in a cafe from 9.50 to 11.50 per liter. In the Spar store you can buy Penasol brand sangria for 3 euros, it tastes exactly the same)) have a nice trip everyone!))

Mallorca is one of the largest islands that make up Spain, located on the Balearic archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. I believe that this is truly a heavenly place where you can enjoy picturesque landscapes, clean beaches and forget about all everyday problems.

This small island, whose area is only 3.5 thousand square kilometers, is slightly different from the usual resorts in Spain, and all because throughout its long history it managed to be at the disposal of the Phoenicians, Romans, and of course, the Arabs. Therefore, the culture here is really very rich!

My acquaintance with this wonderful island began from its capital - Palma de Mallorca. It is here that all its main attractions are concentrated.

As soon as I left the airport, I was struck by the long palm alley that led arriving tourists to the parking lot. The palm trees there are truly majestic, the size of three-story houses! You look and can’t believe your eyes that just 4 hours ago you were in a gray rainy city, and now you find yourself among such beauty!

And when you drive directly into the capital itself, your eyes begin to widen. You look to the left - a turquoise-colored sea, look to the right - a majestic cathedral, and right in front of you - high mountains.

Here you want to photograph absolutely everything, so I advise you to free up memory on your phone, tablet and camera in advance, because you will constantly have the desire to capture this or that place!

How to get there

There are two types of transport to get to Mallorca: air and water.

Of course, the most frequently used and comfortable option is air. In the capital of the island, Palma, there is an international airport, from where airliners of various European airlines depart every half hour and where they land just as often.

As for water communication, Palma has the main port of the island, where ships from different parts of Spain arrive daily, which is very convenient for tourists who spend most of their time on the mainland, for example, in Barcelona or Valencia, and on weekends go on excursions to Palma.

You can get around the island itself by bus, car or train.

By plane

The main and only airport of the island, which bears the name Son San Joan , located 8 kilometers from the capital Palma de Mallorca. This is where both external and internal flights arrive. The airport has very good connections with various European countries, including Russia.

Flights from Moscow

There are direct flights to Mallorca from Moscow (Domodedovo Airport): S7 airlines, the average cost of a round trip ticket is 20 thousand rubles. In addition, you can fly to the island on flights with one or more transfers, operated by the Spanish airline Iberia also from Domodedovo Airport for the same price (about 20 thousand rubles). It is worth noting that there are several other European airlines that fly to Palma with transfers, for example:

  • Finnair;
  • Lufthansa;
  • Swiss;
  • Czech Airlines;

But then the flight time will be more than 20 hours, which is completely inconvenient and not worth the money. Therefore, I advise you to choose a direct flight!

In this case, the travel time will be only 4.5 hours, so I recommend not saving on tickets and not spending the whole day on endless transfers.

You can compare prices yourself, for example.

How to get from the airport to the city

You can get from the airport to the city center either by bus or by taxi.

Of course, a more economical option is a bus. Routes No. 1 and No. 17 constantly run here, which will take you to Palma for only 3 €. If you need to go to the resort town of Arenal, then bus number 21 goes directly to its center from here.

But a taxi will cost much more - the average cost of a trip will be 20 €, and if you are traveling in a group, you can order a minivan for 40 €.

In addition, you can rent a car directly at the airport, there is a wide range of car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Europcar). The average rental price starts from 50 € per day. Details below.

By ferry

So, the second way to get to Mallorca is to sail from another part of Spain by ferry or high-speed catamaran. The latter depart daily to the island directly from:

  • Barcelona (4.5 hours drive),
  • Valencia (4-6 hours drive),
  • Menorca (2.5 hours drive),
  • Ibiza (3 hours drive)

The average ticket price is 40 € and depends on the characteristics of the ship.

How to get from the port to the center

The port of Palma de Mallorca is located 6 kilometers from the city center; if desired and in good physical condition, you can walk from there to the center along the promenade, enjoying beautiful views and a light breeze, or take bus number 1 for only 1.5 €.

The bus stop is located next to the port. Of course, you can catch a taxi and go to the Cathedral (the trip will cost 10 €).

When is the season? When is the best time to go

According to local residents, the island of Mallorca reveals itself to tourists in all its glory at the end of spring and continues to delight the eye until mid-autumn. This is the best period for relaxation!

As for winter, the Spaniards believe that at this time of year their life becomes very calm, quiet and even a little boring. Although the winter weather here is favorable (about +14 °C), there is absolutely nothing to do. Because you can’t even lie on the beach, swim, or enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it is not worth going to Mallorca in the low season (that is, from November to March). The only tourists on the island at this time are employees of companies who organize business meetings, trainings or business trips here.

Mallorca in summer

Like all resorts, the island of Mallorca is especially beautiful in the summer. It is at this time of year that the air and water temperatures reach their maximum and all the most beautiful flowers and shrubs of the island bloom everywhere. By the way, it was in Mallorca that I noticed a very large number of those same flowering evergreens, and this cannot but please the eye!

Of course, summer (especially July) is also vacation time, so there are a lot of tourists here, just like everywhere else. But since Mallorca is still an island and holidays on it are not cheap, wealthy Europeans and most often those over 35 or young families with children like to come here most of all. It is believed that holidays in Mallorca are quite calm and the pace of life is measured, so all young people who prefer nightclubs to evening boat rides go to the neighboring island, Ibiza. But at the same time, it cannot be said that Mallorca is a remote place suitable only for retirees: here you can also have fun and actively relax. But the most important treasure of the island is its incredibly beautiful nature! You will not see such landscapes as here anywhere!

By the way, the climate here is very pleasant; in summer the air temperature reaches about +30 °C, and in winter - +15 °C. But unfortunately, there is nothing to do in Mallorca in winter. Local residents say they experience a lull at this time of year. In fact, the island is inhabited by about a million people, so at a time when all the tourists go home, the island becomes empty and almost deserted. Residents calmly go about their daily affairs, and nothing special happens here. Therefore, I don’t recommend going here in winter, although if you are tired of the city bustle and noise, then here you can definitely be alone with yourself and nature. It’s not for nothing that the residence of the Spanish royal family is located here! Celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow also bought villas in Mallorca. Since Mallorca has catered to the discerning tastes of A-list stars, then you will certainly like it too!

Mallorca in autumn

The beginning of autumn in Mallorca is considered the velvet season, so until the end of September you can enjoy the bright sun and warm sea. But already from October the sun sets at 7 pm, and it becomes noticeably colder, the temperature reaches +7–8 °C.

Even from late October to early November, rain and thunderstorms become more frequent on the island. Therefore, at this time it is no longer worth vacationing in Mallorca.

Mallorca in spring

In spring, the high season gradually begins in Mallorca; already in March – April the air temperature reaches +20–23 °C, the warm, pleasant sun shines, and flowers begin to bloom. At this time you can’t swim yet, but you can already sunbathe.

The good thing about the island in spring is that there are still few tourists here, and you can have a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Mallorca in winter

Winter in Mallorca is a time of complete silence and serenity. The sun shines here quite often, and snow falls only in the mountains; it rarely reaches the lowlands. December is considered the month of rain, but January and February are characterized by pleasant, comfortable weather. The average daytime temperature reaches +14–15 °C.

The only caveat is that it is very boring here in winter, and this is the favorite time of year for retirees to relax.

Conditional areas. Descriptions and features

The island of Mallorca is divided into 7 main areas:

  • metropolitan,
  • central,
  • northwestern,
  • southern,
  • southwestern,
  • southeastern,
  • northeastern.

Capital area

Located closer to the southwestern part of the island, this is where the main attractions and the residence of the royal family are located. If you want to be in the center of all the events, then this is the place to live.

The city itself is quite noisy, there are crowds of tourists walking around, it is very hot and stuffy during the day, so I recommend renting an apartment or staying in a hotel, which is located a few kilometers from Palma. I lived near the beach of Cala Major - this is a typical Spanish resort suburb, there are many hotels, cafes, shops, a large public beach and several museums. In general, an ideal place for those who like a relaxed, but not too boring holiday. Housing here will be more expensive than in other areas, since this is the capital, that is, the most important area of the island.

Southwestern region

This area of the island is the most densely populated. Here are located such large cities as Illetas, Portals, Santa Ponsa, Paguera. It is best to come here with family and children, because in these places you can relax and enjoy the tranquility.

It is also here that the large Bendinat golf club is located, so the area is considered very prestigious and not at all cheap.

Northwestern region

Along the shore, in the shade of trees, there are townhouses and villas, which can be rented for the summer if desired, and here you can also admire beautiful mountain landscapes. Why isn't this a heavenly place?

Northern region

This area is famous for its unforgettable views and pristine beaches. It is here that the highest point of the island is located - Cape Formentor, from which a magnificent view of the sea opens. Housing in this place will be quite expensive due to the extraordinary beauty of nature and due to the proximity to “star” villas.

Large cities in the area: Alcudia and Polença. There is a port near Poyença, from where you can sail around the island on a yacht.

Northeast of the island

It is distinguished by its beauty and serenity. Once you settle here, you will forget about all the problems and bustle of the city.

In this area you will find a large number of traditional farmhouses and farms, and you will also have the opportunity to chat with friendly locals, who may invite you to try oranges grown in their garden or their homemade jamon (cured pork).

Southeast

It is essentially very similar to the northeast, agriculture and sailing are also common here, so if you want to get to know local life better and taste fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, as well as immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the island, get acquainted with its cultural and historical component, then this is a great option!

Southern part of the island

But it is famous for its long beaches, sports bars and noisy discos. The largest resort town is Arenal. This is where the largest water park on the island is located, an amazing aquarium with sharks and stingrays, and many bars. The place is considered quite budget-friendly for recreation, so all young people live in this part, and accordingly, the prices for accommodation here are not bad compared to costs in other areas.

If you like a bright, cheerful holiday, then this is the place for you. And just to the south is the longest beach of the island - Es Trenc. It is distinguished by snow-white sand and a light blue sea.

central part

These are picturesque estates, almond orchards, pastures and olive fields. Another great place for a relaxing holiday, while being only half an hour from Palma.

Here is the large city of Inca, which is famous throughout the world for the production of high-quality leather goods, as well as the city of Sineu, which is definitely worth a visit to look at the magnificent churches and the former royal palace, as well as go to the largest fair on the island, which is held there on Wednesdays

I usually look for hotels on Booking, but you can check if there is a more attractive price somewhere.

Offers for renting private apartments can be viewed here.

What are the prices for holidays?

As I mentioned earlier, holidays on the island of Mallorca can be classified as luxury, and therefore here you will find hundreds of villas and apartments for rent, the price of which starts from 1.5 thousand € for 10 days.

In principle, if you compare this price with hotels, the difference will be insignificant. For the same 10 days in a 3-star hotel in any area of the island, you will pay an average of about 1.7 thousand €, and in a 5-star hotel - about 4 €.

If you consider that in your apartments you will cook on your own, and in hotels you will use the all-inclusive service, then your costs will be approximately the same.

Therefore, it is up to you to decide what is more convenient, but personally, I lived in a good 3-star hotel, where, in addition to all-inclusive meals, there is a free gym, bar, swimming pool and, of course, themed parties!

TOP 5 best hotels on the island

I would like to present to you my TOP 5 best hotels on the island:

  • Globales Simar 4* (from 1.7 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Barcelo Ponent Playa 3* (from 1.3 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Globales Palmanova 4* (from 2.1 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Insotel Cala Mandia Resort & Spa 4* (from 4.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Blue Bay Hotel 3* (from 1.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).

You can find out about prices for ready-made tours (with flights, transfers, accommodation and insurance) to hotels of different categories in the Travelask section.

Expenses

So, if you decide to stay at a hotel, then there will be no problems with food, and if you decide to rent an apartment or villa, then you have the option of shopping in supermarkets, of which there are quite a few on the island. One of the most popular, which often catches my eye, is Eroski. This is a common supermarket chain in Spain where you can buy everything from bread to hand cream at average Spanish prices.

If you buy groceries for a week, the average bill will be about 60 €. You can also visit restaurants and cafes, which will be quite expensive, considering that the average bill will be 50–60 €.

You can go on excursions either independently or with a guide. Mallorca is a small island; you can get from Palma to Alcudia in just an hour and a half, that is, traveling the length and breadth of the island in one day will not be difficult.

You can rent a car for 50–70 € per day and go explore the island yourself, or you can travel by bus for only 6 €. A group excursion with a guide on your own rented bus will cost approximately 100 €. A trip around the island by taxi will cost about 80–90 €.

Main attractions. What to see

Mallorca is famous for its variety of attractions and incredibly beautiful places that you must visit.

If you like to learn all the smallest details and interesting facts about certain attractions, you can hire a guide or book a full-fledged excursion. And if you like to independently walk through beautiful places and discover something new on your own, then you can explore everything on your own.

It is worth choosing a day for the excursion in advance; it is advisable to select one of the weekdays (except Friday), since on weekends the locals begin to have a siesta and rest, and there are too many people on the streets who will prevent you from taking a good look at everything. Bad weather is extremely rare in Mallorca, so you shouldn’t be afraid of rain and cold weather, but you can still check the forecast before your walk, just in case.

The island's capital, Palma, is not very large, so you can walk around the city and see the main attractions.

The map below shows the main tourist spots, museums, galleries, bus stops and more.

I bring to your attention my option for one day in the capital of the island, Palma, I advise you to travel by Citysightseeing tourist bus (ticket price 18.5 €):

  • 10:00 - we go to Bellver Castle, which is located a couple of kilometers from the city. We will spend about 2 hours here.
  • 12:00 - we head to the Spanish village.
  • 13:30 - we will stop for lunch at the signature restaurant Sadrassana Restaurant Cocteleria (Placa Drassana, 15).
  • 15:00 - we go to the cathedral. Since this place is considered the main attraction of the city, we will spend about 2 hours here.
  • 17:00 - we’ll go out to the main tourist streets of Palma and take a walk, go to the Rivareno ice cream parlor (Plaza Llotja, 1) and enjoy the most delicious cold dessert on the island.
  • 20:00 - we will have a seafood dinner at the La Parada del Mar restaurant (Avenida Joan Miro 244 Marivent) and celebrate the end of a great day with a glass of sangria.

Top 5

Below I will give a list of places that, in my opinion, are definitely worth visiting in Mallorca to truly experience the atmosphere and culture of the island.

Cathedral

It is one of the most iconic buildings on the island of Mallorca. The cathedral began to be built in the 13th century, so now it is officially declared a cultural and historical monument of the island. This place is truly extraordinary!

Inside, the cathedral is decorated with colored stained glass windows by various artists, the main altar with four columns, which is decorated with a canopy made by Gaudi himself. It is also home to one of the largest organs in Europe. Agree that this place cannot be ignored!

Address: Plaza Almoina, s/n, 07001 Palma de Mallorca.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10 to 18:15.

Ticket price: 7 €/person.

Cape Formentor

This is one of the most visited places on the island! To visit Mallorca and not come to Formentor is a real crime. Formentor is located near the town of Poyensa and its main port. Its length is about 300 meters above sea level, so the views here are incredible: they will take your breath away. It is impossible to explain, you need to appreciate it with your own eyes!

Address: Cap de Formentor.

Opening hours: 24 hours a day.

Free admission.

Bellver Castle

A couple of kilometers from the city of Palma, on the top of a hill, is the medieval castle of Castell de Belver. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it is the only round Gothic castle in Europe built in the Middle Ages.

It used to be the summer residence of the King of Spain, and later served as a prison, whose prisoners included such famous personalities as the writer Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos and the widow of King Jaime III. The castle has a large observation deck, which offers beautiful views of Palma and its surroundings.

Address: Carrer Camilo José Cela, s/n, 07014 Palma.

Opening hours: 8:30-20:00.

Ticket price: 2.5 €/person.

Spanish village

There is a wonderful place in Palma where tourists have the opportunity to see the most important buildings in Spain and feel the atmosphere of different cities. This place is called the Spanish Village.

In addition to the main attractions, you can visit small souvenir shops and cafes with delicious tapas.

Address: Calle Poble Espanyol, 55.

Opening hours: from 9 to 19:00.

Ticket price: 8 €/person.

Natura Park

This beautiful nature reserve is just half an hour's drive from Palma and is home to dozens of different species of animals and birds from all over the world. The park is outdoors, shaded by trees, and includes several trails.

Here live tigers, monkeys, porcupines, raccoons, turtles, flamingos and even lemurs, which you can feed by hand! This is an ideal place to relax with children, as well as for those who are not indifferent to our little brothers!

Address: Carretera de Sineu, Km 15,400, 07142 Santa Eugenia.

Opening hours: from 10 to 17:30.

Ticket price: 9 €/person.

Beaches. Which ones are better

Mallorca is an ideal place for a beach holiday; it is on this island that there are dozens of the best beaches in Spain, and what about Spain, the whole world! In fact, no matter what beach you come to here, it will definitely be quiet, cozy and clean. Even not far from Palma in the resort areas where thousands of tourists vacation, they are very worthy! But the best places to soak up the sun and enjoy swimming in clear sea water are secluded coves, of which there are many in Mallorca.

As I wrote above, I was vacationing in the Cala Mayor area, a few kilometers from the capital, and one day, quite by accident, I wandered into a cove where there was a small beach, and the sea there was crystal clear! There weren’t very many vacationers there, mostly locals and tourists like me, who most likely also found this piece of paradise by chance.

And yet I will give a list of the best of the best beaches in Mallorca that are worth visiting if only to understand what heaven on earth is.

Beach Cala S "Almunia

This beach is located in the bay of the town of Santanya and is surrounded by rocks; serenity and tranquility reign here. By the way, the beach has all the conditions for diving, and the soft azure waves will allow you to enjoy the sea to the fullest. But it is worth considering that the infrastructure on the beach is not developed, so there are no restaurants, no toilets, no showers and changing cabins.

The type of coating is pebble, the entry into the water is gentle.

Address: Diseminado Poligono 3, 594, 07690 Santanyí.

Cala Mondragó beach

Another truly heavenly place in Mallorca. The beach is located on the territory of the natural park of the same name among pine trees and rocks. Even though this place is quite popular, you can enjoy peace and quiet here. By the way, this beach is shallow, so it is perfect for families with children. It is possible to rent umbrellas and sun loungers here, and there is also a cafe where you can buy soft drinks and snacks.

The type of beach is sandy, the entry into the water is gentle.

Address: Cala Mondragó, Balearic Islands.

Beach Es Trenc

The length of Es Trenc is 2 kilometers. Its peculiarity is that it is the only beach on the island that has not been affected by urbanization, so it looks very exotic and is ideal for romantic dates and walks. You can also rent umbrellas and sun loungers here.

The shore is sandy, the entry into the water is gentle.

Address: Ma-6030, 68, 07639 Mallorca, Illes Balears.

Beach Playa de Formentor

Formentor beach, as you may have guessed, is located near the famous cape of the same name. And, of course, it is also famous for its beauty and wonderful views. The beach stretches for one and a half kilometers, it is surrounded by pine trees, under which it is pleasant to lie down in the summer heat. The sea here is shallow and very clean, and near the beach there are dozens of cafes and restaurants where you can have a delicious lunch. Prices in establishments vary, the average bill for lunch will be about 10–15 €.

Beach type: sandy, gentle entry into the water.

Address: Carrer Zona Formentor, 66A, 07460.

Beach Cala de Sa Calobra

And to top it off, perhaps the most magical bay on the entire island, where a small pebble beach is located between the rocks of the Sierra de Tramuntana. This place is definitely worth getting to! Once you see the splendor that Sa Calobra offers, you will forever keep in your heart the memories of that wonderful day when you arrived here! But it is worth noting that there are no amenities on the beach, so it is advisable to take care in advance and take everything you need with you.

The shore type is rocky, the entry into the water is gentle.

Address: Carrer Port De Sa Calobra.

Churches and temples. Which ones are worth visiting?

Despite the fact that Mallorca is an island, there are quite a lot of churches and monasteries here. By the way, services are held in all the existing ones, and any tourist can visit these temples and admire their interior decoration.

Church of St. Francis

The church is located in Palma, it was built in the 13th century, better known as a Gothic monastery that houses the tomb of the Catalan philosopher Ramon Llull.

Opening hours: 9:30–12:30 and 15:10–18:00.

Address: Basilica de Sant Francesc, 07001 Palma, Islas Baleares.

Monastery of Senhora de Cura

This monastery is located on top of a half-kilometer hill in the Randa Valley. Its distinctive feature is that most of the island is visible from here, and a bar and observation deck were recently opened here. This place is worth visiting for great views and great photos.

Opening hours: 9:30–18:00.

Address: Puig de Randa, S/N, 07629 Randa, Illes Balears.

Monastery of San Salvador

This is a former monastery building, which is located on the highest hill of Mallorca, near the town of Felanitx. Previously, monks lived here, and now the monastery is a favorite place for pilgrims. From it you can see the entire eastern part of the island.

Opening hours: 8–20:00

Address: Santuari de Sant Salvador, 07208 Felanitx, Islas Baleares.

Monastery of Luc

This medieval monastery is very revered by the residents of Mallorca; it is considered the religious center of the island! There are wonderful gardens here, as well as a large museum. There is even an inexpensive hotel next to the monastery, and all because it is very beautiful here and the picturesque Sierra de Tramuntana mountains are nearby.

Opening hours: 10–13:30 and 14:30–17:00

Address: Plaza Peregrins, 1, 07315 Lluc, Mallorca, Islas Baleares.

Museums. Which ones are worth visiting?

There are quite a few museums in Mallorca, perhaps because the incredible nature here compensates for all the cultural institutions here. Below I have selected a few of the most interesting of them, which are really worthy of the attention of tourists.

Museum of Ceramics

In the northeast, not far from Palma, is the small town of Sa Cabaneta, which is considered the center of ceramics production. A museum opened here in 2002, displaying around a thousand traditional Mallorcan ceramics that are worth seeing. The museum houses a pottery school and various souvenir shops.

Museum address: Carrer del Molí, 4.

Free admission. The museum is open from Monday to Friday from 9 to 13:30.

Raiha Estate

12 kilometers from Palma on the way to the town of Sawyer is a beautiful manor house, which is an object of historical and artistic value in Mallorca. Previously, there was a Moorish building here, and after several changes of owners it came to the Count of Montenegro and was ennobled. There are incredibly beautiful landscapes, large gardens and beautiful architecture.

Museum address: Palma - Sóller Road, km. 12.2 07110 Bunyola.

Free admission.

Shoe Museum

Mallorca produces very high quality leather goods, including shoes. In 2010, a museum on this topic was opened in the city of Inca; various traditional exhibits are presented here, and temporary exhibitions with samples of various leather products are often held here.

Parks

The island of Mallorca can be called one big park, wherever you go you will be surrounded by small picturesque bays, green spaces, majestic mountains and endless open spaces. But still, the island has several national parks and nature reserves worthy of attention.

Parc Natural de Mondrago

It is pleasant to walk in this park during the intense heat, because numerous coniferous trees will shelter you from the scorching sun. There are several specific routes, walking along which you can meet forest inhabitants.

Nearby Islands

If you are vacationing in Mallorca, I advise you to choose a day or a whole weekend and devote it to a trip to Ibiza.

Balearia ferries depart from the main port of Palma to the port of Ibiza several times a day. The duration of the trip is approximately 3-4 hours, the average ticket price ranges from 50 to 70 euros per person. Ferries from the Transmediterranea company also run from Mallorca to Ibiza, but please note that they only run on Sundays in the summer.

Details and schedule can be found on the company's official website.

In Ibiza, you can walk around the island's capital of the same name and look at its protective walls, which were built here in the Middle Ages. It is also worth visiting the Punic Necropolis, and be sure to visit the picturesque bay of Cala d’Hort.

Food. What to try

At first you might think that there are no traditional dishes in Mallorca, and that everyone there eats the usual Spanish gazpacho, tapas and tortillas. But I was surprised when I found out that this small island has its own national dishes that you cannot try on the mainland.

Mallorquina soup

It consists of a broth with vegetables and pork and is served with sliced bread.

The soup is incredibly tasty and very filling, which is why it is so loved by locals.

Tumbet

It contains vegetables, namely potatoes, eggplants and onions.

And also add meat or fish to taste.

Sobrasada

Be sure to try it - it is a moderately spicy sausage made from minced pork and bacon, very reminiscent of chorizo, popular in Spain, since their cooking technology is very similar.

Ensaimada

And for dessert, don't forget to enjoy this delicious Mallorcan layer cake. It is rightfully considered the most favorite sweet of local residents.

The ensaymada dough is airy, melting in your mouth, the pie itself is filled with whipped cream or delicate syrup, and the top is generously sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Beverages

Popular local drinks include liqueurs: Herbas secas (dry) and Herbas dulces (sweet). They are infused with anise with the addition of various aromatic herbs.

A very popular aperitif on the island is Palo, made by mixing sweet caramel with bitter cinchona bark.

Here I will give a list of the best restaurants on the island:

  • Es Raco d'es Teix (average bill is 50–70 €);
  • Salvia Restaurant (average bill is 20 €);
  • A ma Maison (average bill is 30 €);

Holidays

As the locals joke, in Mallorca every day is a holiday! And this is completely justified: the wonderful climate, beautiful nature and endless sea help ensure that the island’s residents are always in a great mood. But there are also several official holidays here.

Carnival of Sant Rua

A special holiday in Mallorca is the Sa Rua carnival. Here it is held in winter, in the first half of February.

Decorated residents in costumes take to the streets of the capital and organize a procession. The carnival is held before the start of Catholic Lent.

Mallorca Day

This holiday is celebrated on September 12; it was adopted by King Jaime II back in 1276, when the island of Mallorca was liberated from Muslims.

On this day, concerts and fairs are organized on the island.

Safety. What to watch out for

The island of Mallorca seemed to me a very calm and safe place. Of course, you shouldn’t rule out pickpocketing, which is widespread in Europe, but in general, walking around Palma and its surroundings in the evening is not at all scary, because in the summer life here is in full swing until late at night.

In large stores and supermarkets you will definitely not be deceived, and in small souvenir shops you can recalculate your purchase amount and the change received, just in case, although in general it is not common here to openly profit from tourists.

Therefore, in Mallorca you should not be wary of anything serious, but basic simple safety rules should still be followed.

Things to do

Mallorca has a lot of things to do, you can explore all the beaches of the island and go snorkeling, or you can immerse yourself in its cultural life and visit the most important museums, temples and other historical attractions of the island.

You can also go to Cape Formentor, admire the wonderful scenery and arrange a photo shoot there. Or go to the eastern part of the island to meet the owners of local farms and try their traditional dishes. Don't forget about shopping; you should definitely go to the center of leather goods - the city of Inca. There are a lot of options, choose what you like and enjoy your vacation!

Even though Mallorca is a fairly small island, shopping here is a pleasure! And all because here you can find exclusive things that are produced only in the Balearic Islands!

Shopping and shops

Even though Mallorca is a fairly small island, shopping here is a pleasure! And all because here you can find exclusive things that are produced only in the Balearic Islands!

An excellent example is the traditional summer sandal - avarki. The neighboring island of Menorca is considered their homeland. They are made from genuine leather, in various colors - standard plain or decorated with beads, bright prints, and rhinestones. In Mallorca they are sold both in small shoe stores and in tanneries, for example in the city of Inca. These unusual sandals can be a great souvenir for family and friends, and will look great with both shorts and flowy dresses. Their cost varies depending on the materials from which they are made, but the average price of avarok is around 30 € per pair.

And this is where the famous artificial pearl factory is located. Majorica . If you find yourself in a company store, you definitely won’t be left without a purchase! Pearl beads and bracelets, earrings and pendants are distinguished by their elegance and excellent quality. Prices for pearls vary, for example, the average cost of a pearl necklace is about 300 €, but a pearl bracelet will cost you 100 €. By the way, the factory’s products have a 10-year warranty!

Of course, don’t forget about leather products. Head straight to the city of Inca, where leather factories and shoe and accessory shops are located at every turn. Popular shoe manufacturers here are: Camper, Bestard, Jaime Mascaro, Barrats, Tomeu, Bestard.

In Palma, go shopping in the areas: A vinguda Jaume III And Passeig des Born, as well as many shops you will find on the pedestrian street around Plaza Mayor. The tourist map of Palma, where all the main streets are marked, will again help you not to get lost.

As throughout Spain, the most popular shopping center here is considered El Corte Ingles (Address: Alexandre Rosselló, 12-16). There are 3 stops near the shopping center:

  • 422 Grans Magatzems (buses no. 1, 15, 23, 30 stop here).
  • 195 Grans Magatzems (buses no. 2, 6, 12, 19, 41, 46).
  • 48 Grans Magatzems (buses no. 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, 24).

And another 2 kilometers from Palma there is a large shopping mall Porto Pi(Avinguda de Gabriel Roca, 54). There are 2 stops next to it:

  • 65 Porto Pi (buses No. 3, 20 stop here).
  • 1127 Porto Pi (bus no. 1).

Sales in Mallorca traditionally take place in the winter from January to March and in the summer from July 1st to the end of August.

Extreme Sports

If you love water sports, such as diving, surfing, snorkeling or windsurfing, then Mallorca is the perfect destination for you. After all, it is here in the resort of Alcudia that the water sports center is located. This is an excellent holiday destination for those who prefer an active holiday.

For more than 20 years, the school has been offering travelers training in rowing, windsurfing, basic navigation, and sailing. In addition, guests of the center can go paragliding and mountain biking. And if you are interested in yachting, you can take an introductory course here. In general, you definitely won’t be bored!

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

From the island of Mallorca you can bring a lot of original gifts to your friends and family. You can buy the traditional summer sandals that I wrote about above, by the way, here you can even buy a magnet in the shape of such sandals! Be sure to take an ensaymada cake with you, which can be stored for 2-3 days if unopened, and please your friends with this delicacy in the first days after arriving home (average price per kilo is 7-10 €).

And don’t forget that high-quality leather goods are made in the city of Inca, so feel free to buy bags, belts and shoes.

How to get around the island

There are different ways to move around the city and the island itself.

The most interesting one is on the island's historic electric train. It starts from the Palma de Mallorca train station (Carrer Eusebi Estada, 1), travels along the island, winding between mountains and plains, and stops at the Sawyer train station.

In addition, the island has high-speed trains that run on several routes:

  • Palma Inca Sa Sobla;
  • Palma-Manacor.

The train starts from the underground train station in Plaza de España in Palma. Tickets can be purchased from the conductor or at the city ticket office.

And of course, you can rent a car.

Taxi. What features exist

And another comfortable option for getting around Mallorca is by taxi. The average cost of a trip is 20 €. List of popular taxi companies on the island:

  • IB Taxi;
  • Mallorcataxitransfer;
  • Mallorca Taxi Car;
  • Taxi PMI;
  • majorcabdriver;
  • Fono-Taxi.

Public transport

The most convenient way to get around Mallorca is by bus. If you plan to travel around Palma itself and its surroundings, you can purchase a pass for 10 trips for 10 €, which is very profitable, since a ticket for 1 trip costs 1.5 €.

You can see the detailed schedule of buses and routes on the official website of the bus company.

Mallorca - holidays with children

Holidays in Mallorca with children are a great idea as you can really enjoy the peace and quiet and the children will be impressed by the picturesque scenery and encounters with wild animals that you can find in the Natura Park, on the ostrich farm or in the nature reserves. When traveling with a child, you should pay attention to the southwestern, northern or eastern part of the island - in such places there are few noisy young people and parties, so here you can truly relax and gain strength.

Illetas— is located in the southwest, has a rocky coast and cozy small coves, which you will certainly like if you like a relaxing holiday.

Cala Blava— the resort is surrounded by a pine grove, and the air is saturated with sea and forest. I recommend it for not only a beautiful, but also a healthy holiday.

Cala D'Or- a picturesque small resort in the southeast of the island. Sandy beaches and cliffs covered with pine trees create an idyll and romance. The place is ideal for a wedding trip.

Cala Mayor– located close to Palma de Mallorca, so it’s perfect if you want to see the capital’s nightlife in all its beauty.

Magaluf- the center of the island's nightlife, is most popular among young people and active tourists. Located next to amusement and amusement parks.

El Arenal- a resort with a well-developed entertainment industry. You won't be bored here either day or night. Particularly impressive is the 6-kilometer promenade stretching along the seashore.

Formentor- combines the splendor of the mountains and one of the most beautiful beaches of Mallorca: incredibly long and wide, with white, soft sand and warm sea.

All hotels on the island comply with international standards, so you can be sure that each hotel is responsible for the stars it receives in full. If desired, even here in island Spain, you can find hotels operating on the All-Inclusive system.

I was captivated by the words “wedding” and “romantic” in the description of the resort, so we thought, and I decided that we were going to Cala D’Or.

The beaches in Mallorca are wonderful - with fine white sand, warm and soft, which is so pleasant to walk on. And the sea, as if accidentally peeking into the bay, warmed up and fell asleep... transparent and disintegrating under the rays into dozens of shades. Umbrellas on the beach cost about 5 euros, sunbeds - about 6-7 euros. It is not necessary to take it, especially if you are not going to spend the whole day here. It is dangerous to sunbathe from 12 to 16, as the sun is very strong and even with the use of cream you can get burned. It is better to devote this time to more interesting things - relax in a hotel, have lunch in a restaurant, or sit in the shade of trees near the pool with a book and a glass of cocktail.

It’s worth coming to Mallorca not only for the sun and beach holiday. The island makes you fall in love with the tranquility and beauty of the surrounding nature: spreading evergreen pines, bright and lush rhododendrons dividing the highway lanes, white-green rocks breaking into waves, the quiet harmony that settled here hundreds of years ago.

If you decide to dine in an open-air restaurant, then you are most likely already guaranteed a great evening, since at this time jazz bands, singers and musicians begin performing everywhere. Mallorca's resorts have excellent cocktail bars, famous for their excellent taste and a huge variety of drinks. If you want a calm and relaxed evening, then you need to continue it here. Nightclubs or impromptu discos on the street await the active and young at heart. Avid clubbers require full drive and head to Ibiza at night.

Food and drinks:
The approximate cost of lunch in a restaurant is 10-20 euros. The traditional Spanish dish “paella” (fish, meat, vegetable, mix) costs about 10 euros. A bottle of clean water - from 1 to 1.5 euros. Ice cream - 1.5 euros. Alcoholic cocktail at the bar - from 2.5 to 6 euros. We tried different drinks, but our love was earned by “sangria”, which is prepared simply magically in Mallorca.

We returned from the island. We vacationed in Santa Ponsa. We traveled more than 2000 km across the island by car.

Either we were captivated by high expectations, or after previous Mediterranean trips, but the trip was a great disappointment. There are a lot of people, there is a lot of dirt on the beaches... Somehow, everything was not impressive at all. Of course, the beaches are normal, but in other beach Europe they were more than enough for us.

In short, to put it very briefly, that’s it for now. Later, at home, I’ll try to write a normal review.

advantages: safe, excellent climate, beautiful nature, good transport infrastructure, clean sea, gorgeous sea

Flaws: arrogant waiters, European pensioners, bored

"Island of German pensioners"

We went on a honeymoon to Mallorca last year, so I don’t remember the names of many of the attractions, I’ll write about what I won’t forget :) I won’t offend the island too much, because in general I love Spain very much, after that we’ll go on the same trip We went to Barcelona, which we really enjoyed!

What I liked: Beautiful, clean sea, well-groomed beaches, good roads, the village of Valldemossa and a safari park with animals in the north of the island, there is also interesting architecture in the capital Palma de Mallorca.

What I didn’t like: The island is crowded mainly with European pensioners (we flew in September, maybe it’s their season of course), you especially notice this when you go to sit a little in a bar in the evening, and there are only gray heads and quite a lot of gays around, which is not for a Russian person usual, but absolutely parallel to them, just not usual! There are separate nudist beaches, but for some reason, the 70-year-old old man didn’t really care about sunbathing naked on a regular beach, like 20 others)) There are very few young people, so if anyone wants to look at naked boys or girls, then I’ll be disappointed, naked there are only pensioners there, and when you decide to go in the morning to drink coffee on the beach and have breakfast, your appetite from what you see spoils a little))) Regarding the views and attractions: There are practically no views there, I have something to compare with, with the same Montenegro, where beauty at every step, I'll leave a review later. In a week we drove through the entire island, of course there were wonderful views, but there are catastrophically few of them; when you drive along the roads, you don’t see any nature and almost all the roads do not go along the coast. Shops close very early, we rented an apartment so we could cook mostly ourselves, because eating in local restaurants is very expensive and the menu of pasta, pizza and paella did not inspire us to eat 3 times a day! I didn’t really like the attitude of the waiters, they’re kind of arrogant or something, if you order their signature paella, then everything is fine, but if not, then the attitude immediately became so-so, but I won’t speak for everyone, for example, the owner of the room was very hospitable. The vacation seemed boring to us, although we always try to notice the good sides, but there really isn’t much to see here, maybe it’s just not my island.

If you just want a beach holiday, then I still won’t advise you to go to Mallorca, but only if you are over 60) I can recommend Cyprus, the sea there is fabulous, the food is varied and there are a lot of young people!

I will never set foot in Mallorca again. An island, it is an island. Desert! Boring!!! Author, if you still decide to go there, take a hotel closer to the city. To have somewhere to go for a walk in the evening. There are plenty of beaches. But they are small for me, and I love space. That's why I don't want to go to the islands anymore. In hotels with 3 and 3+ stars, the rooms are very poorly cleaned. You shouldn't take less than 4 stars. One of the best places in Mallorca is Alcudia.

I was in Mallorca - and it was my worst vacation. The beach is complete G, the hotel is G, the food is G. Of course, the last two points are our own fault (my friends and I went, we wanted to stay on a budget)... but in general, somehow the holiday there was not a success.. I didn’t like it... I don’t know, I wouldn’t recommend going there with children at all.

We were on vacation in El Arenal, the sea is dirty, shallow, the beach seems to be completely man-made and there are a lot of people... I liked (well, compared to the public one) the wild beach, the sea is clean, the views are beautiful, but the bottom is rocky and right next to the shore it’s deep, so i.e. getting into the water and then getting out again is difficult and inconvenient

pros:

Minuses:

a lot of people Holidays in Mallorca did not live up to expectations.

My husband and I rested in this hotel at the end of July, beginning of August 2017, 12 days. Let me immediately point out that we have been to Spain many times (Barcelona, Tenerife, Malaga, Madrid, Salou, Gerona, Terragona, etc.), and have also vacationed in other countries in Europe, Asia, America, that is, we really have something to compare with, The review is not unfounded.

About the place... it's complete trash. There are a lot of people on the beaches - there is nowhere for an apple to fall, the water on the nearest beaches is dirty, it smells of sulfur. Sellers are scurrying around and loudly offering their goods (a la our Krasnodar region). You have to constantly keep an eye on things from the sea; you can’t take your phone and money to the beach. Everything is packed together, hotel on hotel like small boxes. There are a lot of drunken European youth with all the ensuing consequences: screaming, noise, singing songs at night, rowdy behavior. The city where the hotel is located is dirty, it smells of urine everywhere, and dog walkers don’t clean up after their pets. I do not recommend going to this place with children. We went by bus to Palma - better hotels are located in Arenal closer to Palma. But they are naturally more expensive.

Our vacation was saved by renting a car, which we ordered from Russia...

In Mallorca, a car is much cheaper than excursions, and it is more convenient because you are left to your own devices.

We only had a problem with parking in Arenal, but we found parking on a dirt road not far from the hotel, and left the car there. It is very difficult to find a place on the city streets. I was unpleasantly surprised by the rudeness of drivers on the roads: they violate a lot, cut each other off, this is the first time we have seen this in Europe.

The peculiarity of local people is that they want to cheat you everywhere: in shops, restaurants, so always clarify unclear details. If you purchase an item at a discount, check that you received this discount on your receipt. If you eat at a restaurant on a separate menu (such as a business lunch or a set lunch), check that they will provide you with a receipt other than from the main menu.

Conclusion - Mallorca is not worth the money, Tenerife is much more beautiful, and you can visit it cheaper. But if you still want to go to Mallorca, then choose hotels from 4 stars and above, preferably in the Alcudia area. We regretted the chosen place; for this money we could have vacationed in other countries or on the Spanish mainland much more comfortably.

Neutral reviews

Mallorca is a great holiday destination, but in order not to spoil the impression, you don’t need to relax in El Arenal, the beach is dirty, the sea is shallow, there are no beauties.... Be especially wary of the “hotel” that is offered to tourists from the CIS “Juan Palma”, in fact it is the most ugly hostel...

I can say one thing - this time I came not as delighted, of course, as the last, but, nevertheless, there are wonderful places there. And not only great places for swimming, but also simply for the soul. At the moment, for us, this is the best place to relax with a small child. I have not heard of any resort in Europe, for example, that has SO many good, relatively clean, sandy beaches, given the small area of the island. You just need to know the places :)

And I have big complaints about beaches, for example. Because of this, at one time I canceled Greece, Croatia, Italy, France and decided in favor of Mallorca, which I don’t regret at all. Another thing is that the densely populated beaches are increasing every year, and this is not encouraging, of course.

But that’s why it exists - it’s not high season))) I’m scared to imagine where I will go when my child goes to school.

Advantages: excellent climate

Flaws: there are thieves, nothing interesting

Good afternoon to everyone who is planning a trip to Mallorca! I’ll start right away with the fact that my review probably won’t suit those who haven’t been anywhere in particular. I've been to 13 countries, so I look at everything with my calm eyes. I can’t say that I will simply admire the beautiful view of the beautiful bay with boats))).

Now about the main thing. Trip 08/18/2017 - 08/29/2017. The trip was planned in such a way as to see the whole island, we booked rooms and hotels in 4 different ends of the island: Sa Pobla, Cala Ratjada, Campos, Palma de Mallorca. Each day was planned, of course, according to the route. I studied all the attractions of the island and made a detailed plan so that I had time to see everything. The trip was planned on a budget; we spent a total of 49,000 rubles for tickets and accommodation for two. On tour. the company was not contacted. Rest 10 days. We cooked ourselves, went to a restaurant three times, and spent an additional 50,000 rubles on the island itself, including renting a car for the entire period, gasoline and food.

By attractions:

All museums are past. We weren't interested.

In general, the entire left side of the island is not interesting (if you look at the map).

The bays and ports are all the same, nothing interesting.

Cape Formentor + lighthouse - super!!! A must visit.

The beaches are almost all unorganized. We really liked the largest beach, Alcudia. It's nice and organized there.

Castles and monasteries are not interesting at all. Some ruins. Nothing to do there

Art's Cave or Dragon's Cave - loved it!!! Choose one to visit, they are the same. We were in the Dragon's Cave.

Manacor - pearl factory. We're not interested at all...

Zoo - we arrived, but didn’t go. Expensive and scarce. But.. we have good zoos in Moscow and St. Petersburg... If you don’t, then maybe it will be interesting....

Palma de Mallorca - very interesting! A must visit!!!)))

There were almost everywhere, small towns, nothing special. If we were planning a route now, we wouldn’t waste time on the left side of the island. We would start our vacation from Formentor and drive down the right coast to the capital of the island.

Attention! We were robbed. During the next move from place to place, they opened the car and cleaned it. There is also a lot of theft on the beaches. Be careful. There are no cameras anywhere. Be sure to print out all the necessary information on paper, make copies of passports and tickets in case of theft. Any phone gets stolen)

Sim cards are not sold everywhere. Only in special Orange stores or in small shops with stickers on the doors that there is mobile communications and the Internet. This is only in large cities. Not in small ones. Don't look.

The Spaniards speak almost no English, keep that in mind.

On buses they do not give change for bills over 10 euros. You'll have to get off the bus. Transport runs until late.

There are no problems in the capital. Palma has everything, almost everyone speaks English)))

Advantages:

Good climate, eucalyptus groves, calm area.

Flaws:

shallow beaches, cool weather in summer.

We were on holiday in Mallorca with a friend in the summer. I honestly admit that at first I was attracted by the name of the island, and of course, by its European-Mediterranean location. We didn’t have a lot of money, I’ll say right away, but we really wanted to have an unforgettable vacation, which we very much succeeded in doing. We chose a three-star hotel with two meals a day, and hit the road) 4 and a half hours and we were there. The first days, we didn’t plan anything and lived mainly on the beach, but soon we got tired of it, since the beaches there were somehow too shallow and blown through by a chilly breeze (and this was in the midst of July). Therefore, we scraped together money for a sightseeing tour and had a lot of fun. It lasted almost the entire day. We were taken along the "Tie's Knot" road - This is a rather impressive serpentine road, so that it really took our breath away a couple of times, we visited a monastery, then swam in the bay and then by sea on a comfortable boat we were taken to the port of Soller. It must be said that we chose the cheapest and only excursion of the entire vacation, but the memories of it will be much brighter than a simple swim in the sea. I won’t recommend Mallorca to those who like to relax on the beach; it’s not very convenient to splash knee-deep a kilometer from the shore.

Positive reviews

You have to go to the north of Mallorca, there are fewer people there. I was pleased with the prices in supermarkets, they are close to ours, some types of products are even cheaper, the availability of seafood at affordable prices, and of course, gorgeous beaches with warm water) and what else do you need? We’re going there again this year, but it’s already cheap will not be(

Mallorca is a place that will suit absolutely everyone for a holiday - both young people who come here from all over Europe to “hang out” in nightclubs and numerous discos, and couples with children who will find here all the conditions for a great holiday. We fall into the second category and, despite the fact that we stayed in Magaluf - that center of exuberant fun that young Englishmen love so much, we had a wonderful holiday there. Just some useful advice to everyone who comes here - stay somewhere on the outskirts, it’s better to walk to the nightclub areas. We did just that, and we really enjoyed it in Magaluf, where we were not disturbed by discos, and the conditions for relaxation - the gentle sea of the Balearic Islands, the hot sun (be sure to take creams!), an excellent well-maintained beach - all this was present and left an unforgettable impression. In Magaluf itself, it’s worth visiting the Kathmandu Upside Down House, which has many optical attractions, and which children love, as well as the Pirates show with a simply excellent program and first-class world-class acrobats (it’s a little expensive, but worth it!).

and, of course, you shouldn’t focus only on Magaluf and a great holiday there, but it’s best to travel around this pearl of the Balearic archipelago - the island of Mallorca. We did just that, and were in the medieval city of Alcudia with the majestic church of Saint Jaume, and with the ruins of the old fortress (and what a natural park Albufera is there with hundreds of birds - just super!), and in the Galatzo Natural Park, and in the Cabrera National Reserve . The nature of Mallorca deserves only excellent reviews! But what makes a special impression on this island is its capital - the magnificent Palma de Mallorca with its fantastic, simply ancient Catholic Cathedral. This is the only cathedral in the world that faces the sea, and it is especially beautiful when you approach Palma. Our excursion included a trip on a yacht, so we were able to fully enjoy the view of the cathedral, which is stunningly beautiful from everywhere.

The inside of the cathedral is also very beautiful, and Gaudi designed the benches for it; we sat on them with great comfort and admired the interior decoration. And then we sat on a horse next to the cathedral and rode in a carriage along the old Palma, it’s just wonderful! The Picasso Museum in Palma is also worth visiting, as is the city's port. What kind of yachts are moored there! Just a peek!

Of course, February is not the most suitable month for a holiday in Mallorca. However, when there is frost in your hometown, cold radiators in the apartment, and the tour operator offers a full package of services, including flights, transfers, accommodation in a four-star all-inclusive hotel for, in fact, a nominal fee, it was easy to refuse the trip impossible.

We are very glad that we decided to take this opportunity and visit the pearl of the Balearic Islands - the island of Mallorca. Our hotel was located in the small town of Canpicafort, located on the Mediterranean coast. Every day we walked along its beautiful embankment, admiring the landscape and breathing in the amazingly clean air filled with the aromas of the sea.

In the hotel pool we could swim daily, which replaced swimming in the sea. However, there were also people who fearlessly swam in a sea that could not be called warm. The water temperature was 12-14 degrees, i.e. - for especially hardened and trained people.

The undoubted advantage of our trip to the Balearics in the middle of winter was the opportunity to carry out as many excursions as possible. To do this, we rented a car and one day went to the town of Valldemosa, lost in the mountainous part of the island and gained worldwide fame thanks to the stay of the writer George Sand and composer Frederic Chopin in one of its castles. We needed several days to explore museums and attractions in Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic Islands.

All our fears that it would be boring and uninteresting at a seaside resort in winter turned out to be unfounded. We had a great time and gained much needed strength and energy.

I was on holiday in Mallorca in September 2017. Considering that, in principle, we love and often visit Spain, I was delighted with the island. Compared to the mainland, it is cleaner, quieter and more peaceful. Stunning nature, many farms, respectively, have their own plantations of olives, figs, almonds, and grapes. Such a quiet, rich countryside, but at the same time it has its own best medical clinics and universities, a museum of modern art, where the works of Salvador Dali and Picasso are kept.

I was pleasantly surprised by the climate of the island, there is no strong humidity, a constant light breeze, we were there in September, of course, but I think it’s quite comfortable to be here in the summer. There are a lot of attractions in tiny Mallorca, so in order to have time to see everything, I recommend renting a car; by the way, it’s not expensive, a day’s car rental starts at 38 euros per day plus gasoline (20 euros was enough for a day of driving)

From the excursion program you must visit: the capital Palma with a tour of the Cathedral, Cape Formentor, which you often see on the Internet in photos, but when you are on the observation deck the sensations are completely different)

Further to the north is the pearl of the island, the romantic and beautiful town of Valldemossa, which also attracts attention because the famous writer George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent their winter here. You will be taken through the rooms where the couple lived, where their personal belongings are kept, and invited to a concert to listen to Chopin’s works.

And of course, the gorgeous beaches of Mallorca with pink and white sand! From the ones I saw, I recommend the beaches of Magaluf, Cape Formentor, Santa Ponsa, Mondrago.

In general, in a nutshell, Mallorca is mountains, steps, nature, history, friendly people, delicious food, stunning beaches and the sea....

Mallorca is a stunning island. Having been here once, you definitely want to come back! Not a single photograph will convey to you the beauty that you see with your own eyes.

Mallorca is small, but very different, it is not only the sea and the beach, although the sea here is undoubtedly magnificent. These are mountains, bays, small towns and villages. Here at every step you encounter landscapes that are impossible to tear yourself away from.

You should definitely rent a car and drive around the island, there are a lot of attractions here.

Santa Ponsa. We were in Mallorca at the end of May - beginning of June. I’ll say right away that we were almost the first charter to fly there. There were very few Russians (only the first plane), then compatriots began to appear. The water was cool (not yet warmed up), but you could run in and out. We were in the Santa Ponsa region. Entering the sea sand - beach sand. No stones. There are green parrots all around. And..... Irish quarter with 100 kg for the young ladies. My husband constantly asked - let's go to the Irish one in the evening, let's look at the girls. The British were family people, not violent, quiet. No crazy parties. We went on excursions to Chopin's places and to Solera on an ancient train. We took regular buses to Palma de Mallorca. It saved us that it was not yet as hot as in summer and we could wander everywhere for a long time. We flew back on a half-empty plane, because people had just arrived there, and no one was going back yet.

Our family Mallorca

I first read about Mallorca from a girl blogger. She talked on her Instagram page about her travels and how she plans to fly to Mallorca one of these days. To say that I was interested is to say nothing. I was fired up with thoughts about beautiful Mallorca and firmly decided that we would fly with the children in September! We packed our suitcases, took swimsuits, warm clothes (I had read that the weather can be quite capricious and therefore decided to prepare to the fullest) and a good mood, of course.

And you know what makes you fall in love at first sight and never lets you go? This is magnificent architecture. Friends, this is such a charming atmosphere that I don’t have enough words or emotions to describe it all - you can feel such power, history in every street and in every cathedral.

I’ve heard about shopping in Mallorca, many friends brought quality items, but I can’t say anything concrete about this. I really wanted to buy something too, but the children wanted to swim more :) Friends, I don’t regret our quiet, family vacation in Mallorca at all, it’s some kind of magic - we’ll definitely come back here! At least for shopping ;)

When is the best time to go on holiday to Mallorca?

Special climatic conditions create the opportunity to relax on the island at any time of the year. Despite this, the main tourist season is considered to be from April to October. This period is the best for a beach holiday.

The peak of the “high” season falls in the summer – June, July and August. At this time of year, the weather conditions on the island are the hottest, most suitable for all types of entertainment and recreation.

From November to the end of March the “low” season begins. It is almost impossible to swim in the sea, but this period also has its advantages. Housing prices fall 2–3 times (relative to summer), become cheap, and the weather at this time of year is warm and clear. Between seasons, it is easiest to explore the real and genuine culture of the island, feel its spirit and enjoy the local flavor.

Along the coast of Mallorca lie the same snow-white beaches that are shown in Bounty commercials. This “sugar” sand has become famous throughout the world. Every year, from mid-May, millions of tourists flock to these shores. The swimming season lasts until the last days of October.

The velvet season begins in mid-September. At this time, moderately warm and sunny weather prevails, the sea is still gentle. The main wave of vacationers is waning, the beaches are becoming free.

Car rental in Mallorca - where and how?

Mallorca is a small island. Its length is 110 km from north to south and only 75 km from west to east. The best way to explore local attractions is by car. A rented car gives you freedom of movement and not being tied to public transport schedules. If the car is hired by the company, then there will be significant savings on transport costs.

Mallorca lives on tourism. Everything is done here to ensure that guests of the island are satisfied with their stay. This also applies to car rental companies. They are friendly and try to please any wishes of their clients. Some of them (small car rentals) even accept Russian plastic IDs when renting out cars. True, the same cannot be said about local police officers. If a difficult traffic situation arises that requires the involvement of law enforcement officers, it can be difficult to communicate with them.

The general requirements for clients when renting a car are the same as in other EU countries: age over 21, driving experience of at least 12 months, availability of an international driving license and a credit card. You can rent a car directly at the airport, or in advance, which is often cheaper from international online brokers such as Rentalcars, Avis, Sixt, etc.

The Internet makes it possible to spend in advance, resulting in the car that is needed, rather than choosing from what is left. For online booking, a partial prepayment is most often sufficient, although some companies prefer full prepayment, offering some nice bonuses. Rental conditions vary depending on the season and need to be monitored regularly.

Rent price

Before signing the contract, you must carefully read all the rental conditions, paying special attention to insurance, mileage limits and surcharges for ancillary services. All rental companies provide a base price in the contract and use it as a trump card. But it’s worth taking into account that the price will definitely increase due to insurance, payment for child seats (which you can’t live without), a navigator, and so on. All this must be taken into account so as not to be upset when looking at the final check.

The final rental cost depends on the class of the car. Economy class will cost approximately 35–40 euros per day rental, and a class C car is 25–35 euros more expensive. Booking a car for a long period (more than 7 days) significantly reduces the daily cost.

Parking

Free parking spots on the island are located near the main attractions, large supermarkets and large hotels. They are marked with white lines or not marked at all. Cars are squeezed in there as best they can, so you have to be careful and take care of your bumpers.

If the area is marked with yellow lines, then you cannot park there. A fine will follow, or even immediate evacuation of the car. Troubles are guaranteed.

Paid parking spaces are marked with blue markings. Parking tickets are purchased from a machine and left under glass.

Public transport in Mallorca

Public transport in Mallorca consists of buses, trains and ferries. The ferries are designed to transport passengers to the Spanish mainland and for travel between islands. Rail services connect the main cities in the southern and northern parts of the island. The bus network connects all settlements.

Buses in Mallorca

Buses are the main transport in Mallorca. In the capital, Palma de Mallorca, bus service is provided by EMT. You can pay for travel using travel cards and cash. In the second case, it is advisable to have small coins with you. Paying by card is more profitable - travel is cheaper. Its cost is 10 euros for 10 trips, while one trip around the city costs 1.5 euros.

Intercity transportation is provided by TIB. By buses of this company you can get to any locality on the island. All buses are comfortable and air-conditioned. The cost of one trip is 1–10 euros, depending on the distance. The driver accepts the fare upon boarding. He needs to name the destination and the required number of tickets. To avoid misunderstandings, it is better to write the desired name on paper in Spanish in advance.

Traveling by bus is the most suitable option for budget travel. Travel prices can be found on the website page at this link. This type of transport is very popular, and during peak hours all seats on buses, including standing ones, are occupied.

From the airport to the capital of Mallorca you can take bus number 1, the final stop of which is the station Dic de l’oest (Eastern Docks). The movement interval is 12 minutes. The first flight starts at 6 am. The fare is 5 euros. The bus stop at the airport is easy to find: it is located at the exit of the terminal, right next to the parking lot.

Ferries in Mallorca

In Mallorca it is pleasant not only to sunbathe on the beach, but also to take boat trips. Small boats regularly ply along the entire coast of the island. they go to the small islands and the mainland. You can also get there using a high-speed catamaran. The cost of the trip depends on the class of the ship and the distance - about 40 euros. Lovers of sea romance have the opportunity to rent a yacht. The rental price is discussed with the owner of the vessel.

Rail transport Mallorca

Out of curiosity, you can also take a train ride. There are several railway lines, trains on which depart from the underground station of the capital, located near Plaza de España.

Trips to the town of Sawyer, in the north of the island, are popular. This route opened in 1911 and passes through a network of tunnels, between beautiful mountains and plains. A ticket costs 10 euros one way, but if you buy a round trip ticket, the total amount will decrease by 3 euros.

When purchasing tickets at the box office, you should remember that the cashiers may not understand the pronunciation. The name of your destination should be written down on paper. Stops on the train are announced in Spanish, so you need to carefully follow the route map. These diagrams hang in every carriage. To get off on time, you need to press the call button, which is located next to the seat, before stopping. Train travel is inexpensive, with tickets costing between 2 and 10 euros.

What is worth trying on the island?

· Sobrassada – a paprika-like sausage made from fibrous pork. It is spread on regular bread. There are two types of sausage: spicy and regular.

· Ensaimades – a dessert pie made in the shape of a snail. The taste of the pie is reminiscent of Easter or Italian panettone. There are other varieties of pie - custard or chocolate is used as filling.

· Hierbas liqueurs are herbal liqueurs used as aperitifs. The local population dilutes them with sparkling water or adds ice.

· Sea salt, mined and processed in a variety of ways. The local population is especially proud of the fine salt in the form of small flakes. It is purchased for the preparation of the famous Norwegian herring. You can buy regular salt or with the addition of olives, paprika, rosemary and others.
